Varsity Jacket Outfit For Autumn – Here’s How I Styled Mine

Autumn is here and that means new outfits that suit this weather well.

There’s two things that I think about when it comes to Autumn: A transitional season from hot to cold, and of course it’s back to school season.

A varsity jacket outfit is cool preppy style which really feels like a back to school, college or university style.

Here’s how I styled mine.

When it comes to Autumn it’s a transitional season, from hot to cold. That means it’s a big season for different coats and jackets, and one of my favourites is definitely a varsity jacket.

Varsity jackets, letterman’s and baseball jackets come from American fashion, specifically school and college sports.

They’re also called letterman’s jackets, which comes from having the lettering of the school or college on the front of the jacket.

The story goes: A “letterman” is someone who earns a letter patch for their jacket, which is done through sports.

So if you’re like me and have seen American TV shows and films with people on the college basketball or American football teams wearing the jackets, that’s where it comes from.

How I Style This Varsity Jacket

When it comes to styling a varsity jacket, it’s something I really love to do.

This is my plain black and white varsity jacket, and I went for a full on black and white look.

I styled the varsity jacket with black jeans which I got from A.P.C, a really good denim brand.

On the top I wore a plain white t shirt from NN07 aka No Nationality. It’s plain and clean, with a minimalist word branding to the front.

As for my trainers, I wore my Nike Panda Dunks. They’re a modern classic, the black and white go really well with the varsity jacket.

This is a style I really like for Autumn, and I’ve previously worn my red varsity jacket a few years back in the autumn. It’s a really cool style which is forever fashionable this season.

What Is A Varsity Jacket Made From?

A traditional varsity jacket is made from wool, with real leather sleeves. I have one of these in blue and white, and it’s incredible. The quality is amazing, and it’s really heavy.

This varsity jacket is made from 100% cotton, and it’s think sweatshirt like material.

Varsity jackets come with a front button placket and have welted pockets.

What Are The Fundamentals Of Varsity Jacket Design?

The absolute fundamentals are that the jacket has contrasting sleeves and body. In my jacket here, it’s black and white.

Occasionally you can have the same colour body and sleeves, but then it’s usually called a baseball jacket.

Sleeves and the hem of the jacket are usually elasticated, so they hug the body.

The sleeves and hem come with stripes, usually twin stripes that compliment the colour of the sleeves.
