Gareth Southgate’s Waistcoat – Get The Style [Guide]

Fashion, Men's Style Guides
Monday, 9th July, 2018

This World Cup has been all about the football, and it’s been brilliant. In second place however, fashion has played it’s part; We all know about the Nigeria kit which sold out when Nike took 3 million orders, but the Gareth Southgate waistcoat, has been a massive hit in Russia this year.

Do you want to dress like Gareth and get the waistcoat style? It’s easy to pull off!

When it comes to football managers there’s always been two styles; The tracksuit manager, think of Jurgen Klopp, and the manager wearing the suit, which tends to be a lot of them these days. But what do you do when it’s hot? You could be like Jorge Sampaoli the Argentina manager and wear a fitted T-shirt, or be like a smart Gareth Southgate and pull off waistcoat style to a tee.

Since this is a blog all about fashion and style, and I love football and gave the blog a World Cup theme this Summer, now is the time to talk about Garth’s trademark waistcoat style, tie and all.

Style Basics – It’s All About The Blue

The waistcoat, trousers and shirt are all blue. The shirt is a light blue or sky blue colour, with dark navy trousers and matching dark navy waistcoat. Dark and light blues compliment each other so well, and as you can see it all works. England is known for red white and blue, and the tie is exactly that. The shoes are black, keeping the outfit smart.

Where Can I Get The Gareth Southgate Waistcoat From?

I know it’s a question a lot of people are asking. Once again the tailoring for the England squad has been done by Marks and Spencer, as they have done in previous years. They’ve always created a smart style for the team, but in 2018 it’s been taken to a whole new level with the players and manager looking extra sharp.

The waistcoat is available in both a slim fit and tailored fit, made from British wool and has a 5 button style which will fit perfectly, and set you back £65. You can buy the slim fit here and tailored fit here.

Why not go the whole hog, and get yourself the full suit, waistcoat and all. The whole 3 piece suit will set you back £264 which is an excellent price, and since it’s navy it’s completely timeless and you’ll be able to wear it to virtually any event in your life and always look sharp. Once again two fits are available; The slim fit here, and the tailored fit here.

The light blue shirt is a tailored fit light blue cotton shirt, which costs £45 and you can get it here.

The tie looks incredible! Even if you’re not a tie guy, this one just works. The striped red, white and dark navy blue really pulls everything together and makes the outfit complete. The tie only costs £25 and you can get it here.

The official shoes which are part of the range are black brogues which look really nice. These come in at £79 here and finish off the outfit with a touch of class.

The trousers come part of the suit, as mentioned above you can get the full three piece suit which comes with the waistcoat, or the two piece is also available, but for this look, you really need that waistcoat!

Final Word

The total cost to officially look as stylish as Gareth Southgate comes in at £413 for absolutely everything, although you could mix and match if you already own a couple of the items. This is a great price when you factor in the suit is 100% wool and if you read my blog or any other, it’s all about the fit and the quality. I’ve got a couple of M&S suits, and can honestly say, they’re brilliant for the price, the quality is fantastic and you’ll find it hard to beat them on both fronts.
