Germany Goalkeeper Shirt From Adidas Icons Review

It’s another week and I have to showcase another bargain I recently got. The Germany Icon Goalkeeper shirt by Adidas.

When Adidas released this mini collection of retro goalkeeper shirt remakes I loved them. This Germany shirt is pretty iconic, so I had to get it.

This is what you need to know.

So you’ll have seen my Spain icon goalkeeper shirt and the Mexico Icon goalkeeper shirt, and the next on up is the Germany version.

Unlike the Spain and Mexico versions which were inspired from Adidas goalkeeper shirts of the 90’s but never worn, the Germany shirt is a bit different.

This Germany Icon goalkeeper shirt is the same design which the German team wore in the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Germany beat England in Italia 90 in the semi finals, winning on penalties, with the goalkeeper Bodo Illgner saving one of the spot kicks.

Germany then went on to win the World Cup, with Illgner wearing this shirt in the final.

So it’s safe to say that this design has a lot of history behind it.

As for the design itself, it’s once again another brilliant 90’s goalkeeper shirts.

The black base with purple, pink and grey colours all work together well, with lines designed going in all directions. The neckline and cuffs are black and ripped, and the three Adidas stripes go all the way down the sleeves in pink.

To the front there’s the Adidas Sportswear badge and Germany badge on the right and left, with Germany’s 4 stars denoting their 4 world cup wins.

Eagle eye fans will note that it’s the new Germany badge with 4 stars, because in the original shirt it was actually West Germany, and they had only won 2 World Cups at that point.

Still, this is a brilliant modern take on the 90’s shirt.

Once again the quality is really good, with it’s double knit fabric which feels really nice. The fit is oversized, great for a goalie top, and reminiscent of the football shirts gone by.

I have always been a big fan of goalkeeper shirts, and it stretches back to the 90’s because of these crazy designs that were around. I love to own this, although I’ll probably not wear it as much as I’d like to.
