It’s that feeling only the true football fans understand, it’s the feeling of emptiness. Spain have been knocked out of the World Cup, losing to Russia on penalties. It was not the greatest campaign for Spain, and as with the last one, there’s the emotional story behind it too.
You wait 4 years for the World Cup, then it’s 4 weeks of brilliant and unforgettable football if you make the final and win, but when you go out, those 4 years are gone in an instant; It’s replaced with the feelings of what if, and another 4 year wait for the next one, not knowing what the future holds.
Where did it all go wrong? Some will say 2 days before it started, with Lopetegui announcing he was joining Real Madrid and was sacked, it’s hard to pin point exactly what went wrong.
I got myself a couple of new T Shirts in the sale! If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll have seen them before, they’re the RB94 T Shirts from Diadora.
If you’re not familiar, Diadora collaborated with Roberto Baggio on a capsule collection which was to bring back the styles of 90’s trends, in particular the USA 94 World Cup. The original collection featured a few pieces at the back end of last Summer and was limited, then shortly after a wider collection was released, including these T Shirts.
As mentioned, they’re based on the home and away shirts of the Italy football team, who played in blue and had a white away shirt. These tops are iconic, Italian football was the best in the world in the early and mid 90’s, before the Premier League really took hold. Football has always been huge in Italy, and after Italia 90, they had a real chance of winning USA 94, and got all the way to the final, before losing to Brazil on penalties. Their talisman and star Roberto Baggio missed the crucial kick, but is always remembered fondly around the world as one of the best players to play for Italy.
Since I featured these tees on the blog last year they’ve always been on my radar, and since going to Rome recently they came back into my mind, and after a quick search I found a couple from the collection which I could get, which were also on sale which was a bonus.
They make perfect clothing for street wear style, and as I’ve mentioned plenty of times I love 90’s trends, so these are perfect. The Italian badge is replaced with an Italian style Diadora badge, along with the Diadora wording on the opposite breast. It has tonal patterns within the shirt, synonymous with the football and sports shirts of the era. It was a tough decision whether to get the blue or white, so I ended up getting both 🙂
We’re well into the Summer season now, but since this is the UK, it still gets a bit chilly, especially on a night. I love sweats for just sitting around and chilling, there’s nothing better when you’re relaxing than wearing something comfortable. Comfort doesn’t mean sloppy, and if you’re looking for a refresh, H&M have got some pastel sweats for you!
I’ve already got a pink sweatshirt which I love, but they’re back with a slightly different colour which they’re calling apricot. Another colour in the collection is this yellow colour which I really love, perfect for a Summer night or even the day time, and if you want that ultimate clean look, white always looks fresh.
To compliment the sweatshirts, there’s something for your lower half. I’ve often spoke about sweat shorts, and just like the tops, they’re great for when you’re just kicking back and relaxing. These come in matching colours, apricot, white and yellow.
They’re perfect to wear as a pair or separates, if you’re looking to get an upgrade for Summer and up your casual style, these sweats will do it. The sweatshirts come in at £17.99 with the shorts £12.99 each, making a pair come in at just under £31.
The only question is, which colour should you get?
Since I did so much in Rome on Day 1 and on Day 2, I reserved day 3 for doing pretty much anything, a free-for-all where I would just explore the city in general, go in a couple of shops and just take in Rome.
One of the places I hadn’t been and wasn’t too bothered about going to was Villa Borghese, which is a huge landscape garden type of place. It was Sunday morning, so I thought I’d have a walk around here for a while. It’s the home to a few sculptures and statues, lots of greenery and the Borghese gallery and museum.
I went to the Piazza Del Popolo which is a huge square, then to the Piazza Venezia along with the Altare della Patria, yet another cool place. In the late afternoon I went to Trastevere, which is a more traditional and old fashioned neighbourhood of the centre of Rome, and saw the Piazza Santa Maria along with a couple of other things there.
I also went back to the Vatican for another look around and to do some shopping, this is where the Hard Rock shop is.
I did the usual tourist types of shops when it came to shopping, and even though I love fashion and Rome has endless numbers of high street and high end fashion shops, I didn’t go in any, but saw plenty.
So we’ve seen Day 1 in Rome, and Day 2 was a lot of the same, sightseeing the major landmarks and sights. I saw the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Vatican, the Jewish Ghetto and a whole lot more. I packed in so much in day 2! I also had my first gelato, the first of many, which was so good and so needed, as the weather was pretty hot!
It all started at the Trevi Fountain, which was packed at around 9:30AM. This was really busy and quite hard to take photos. I thought it may be a little quieter in the morning, but it wasn’t. From there I went to the Pantheon, and took a couple of photos outside. I didn’t have any plans on going in, but I noticed there seemed to be no queue, and so I decided to go in. It’s quite an impressive little space, with lots of cool architecture.
Once I had been there, it was time for the big walk to The Vatican and St. Peter’s Square. It’s a place you have to go to when in Rome, so I did. I wasn’t too bothered about going inside, and just wanted to go to check it out.
After that I had a bite to eat, a drink and then headed to another one of Rome’s Piazzas to chill out, the Piazza Navona. I got myself a gelato and chilled by the fountain while I ate it.
From there it was yet more exploring. I went to the Jewish Ghetto which was worth going to see, with all of the ancient architecture. Then I explored more of the streets of Rome, and headed over the bridge to Tiber Island, something I never planned on doing.
My journey to Rome started at Newcastle at around 5:45 when I got to the airport, boarded my flight and got underway! It almost started with disaster, There were strikes on in Italy, and Easyjet and Ryanair had both cancelled flights. but thankfully the strikes started at 13:00, with my flight from Jet2 scheduled to land before that, the pilot advised us of the strikes and said they’d fly quicker to make sure they avoided them.
Once I got to Rome I decided to take the Leonardo Express to the main station which is Termini and within 30 minutes or so I was there. I then had a bit of a walk to my hotel, and since I’ve never been didn’t know my way around, so it took a little longer, but I finally found it and got checked in. I’ll write a review of the hotel separately.
My first stop was the Spanish Steps. They were close to my hotel, and on the way to the Metro station Spagna where I’d take the Metro to the Colosseum. The one thing you’ll notice which I found out is that this is a chill out place to sit, which is really cool and I loved it. I spent a lot of my time there. Another thing you’ll notice in my pictures is the number of people taking selfies 😀
I’ve been to Rome! Sorry for the lack of updates, but last weekend I went to Rome in a bit of a hastily planned trip. I had lots of planning to do at short notice, then went to Rome and only got back yesterday, which is why the blog has not been updated for a while.
But I am back now, and I’ll be sharing my trip on the blog over the next few days.
Rome was never a placed where I’ve always wanted to go, but I wanted to go somewhere, and now that I’ve been I can say that I loved it! It could be the best tourist place I’ve been to, and is such a cool city. I wanted to go somewhere this year, after I missed out going abroad last year for no particular reason, I always had in mind I’d go somewhere, and just went ahead and booked it.
Everything about the planning was good; The flight times, the flight days, it’s nice and hot, and I found a nice hotel. So I was all set to go, and last weekend I did. I was there for 3 days and nights, and saw pretty much everything.
As always I’ll be posting in the travel blog, and split it up into my days and nights of being there. So over the next few days I’ll be sharing my photos and letting you know what I got up to 🙂
The World Cup is right around the corner! Here is every single home and away shirt you will be seeing in the World Cup, that’s 64 different kits! Virtually every team will be wearing a new kit in the competition, some with different designs, and some slight updates on their kit. It’s always good to see the fresh new kits in the World Cup, from the heavyweights such as Nike, Adidas and Puma, to the smaller brands such as Hummel, Errea and Uhlsport.
There’s a couple of first timers in the World Cup, including Iceland and Panama, so a few new kits to look out for. Do you have any favourites?
Who’s excited for the World Cup? Yes, I am! There’s plenty of brand new kits which you can be wearing for the competition this year, but if the modern 2018 shirts are not your style, Umbro has came up with the answer.
