Zegna Intenso And Essenza Fragrance Review by by Ermenegildo Zegna

Essenza Di Zegna and Zegna Intenso are two fragrances which I got quite a while ago. Released around 2003 and 2007 respectively by Ermenegildo Zegna. The Italian fashion house is known for it’s elegance, and these two scents can certainly be described as that.

Both bottles are a similar style, with the Essenza being a light coloured clear bottle, and the Intenso being dark, and having stripes throughout in the style of closed blinds.

Essenza Di Zegna is a slightly fresh and aquatic style of smell, with hints of amber and musk as it settles down. It’s quite a strange combination, which makes determining it as a night or day scent is quite difficult. This means I could recommend it as either day or night wear, probably on a more casual basis. It’s a slightly warm aroma, but not something you’d exclusively classify as something for a winters night.

Zegna Intenso is a really nice, inviting scent, which slightly resembles Armani Code. It’s slightly woody and aromatic, and is perfect for date night, a night out with the lads, or any kind of situation where you want to smell like a warm and inviting individual.

Both scents are quite individualistic, and quite underrated in the fragrance market. Neither is a stand out scent which is going to be a must have for someone who’s looking for that one killer bottle of cologne, but if you’re looking for something which others aren’t wearing, either of these could be worth thinking about.

As both scents are quite old now, you can shop around and pick up either for a great price. It’s worth buying if you can get a good deal.

In terms of the longevity, as these are both EDT and not particularly strong, the longevity is fair. Expect to get 4 or 5 hours before the scent really starts to fade away, especially Essenza, the lighter of the two. The projection is also quite small, so people at the other end of the room are unlikely to smell the scent.

If you’ve got or worn either of these fragrances from Ermenegildo Zegna, let me know what you think of them.

Alvinos Cocktail Bar Newcastle

Thursday, 3rd April, 2014

Alvinos is an amazing bar

From real ales to cocktails, Alvinos has all the drinks you could want. One of the best bars in Newcastle, it manages to combines a cool chilled back atmosphere with a lively friendly spirit, a true old fashion cocktail bar with great music inside, great people and plenty of seating over 3 levels including a few cosy hideouts.

Drinks

As far as drinks go, you’re pretty much covered at Alvinos. bottled beers, draught, guest ales, a large selection of cocktails and more, classics such as a Mojito can be yours for under £6.

The Place

As mentioned, the bar has a sort of 3 levels, with the middle being tiny but space enough for a couple of friends, with a couple of hideaway spots on the ground floor too. The ground floor also houses plenty of seating and tables out in the open, and has classic bar games such as pinball and fuss ball. With 2 separate bars, you can get drinks on the ground or top floor. The top floor has tables and seating area inside, open but secluded enough to not be bothered by other tables. The top floor also leads to an outside terrace, the place to be in the summer with an outdoor DJ, or if you smoke you can go here and stay warm under the heaters in the winter.

Located on Pilgrim street, this is one of Newcastle’s best places to go if you’re a young person looking for a good time with a laid back attitude.

Hot Water By Davidoff Fragrance Review

Davidoff Hot Water Fragrance Review

A fire red bottle, and an oriental and warm smell, Hot Water by Davidoff is a fragrance which has been around since 2009. This EDT features a quite tall and slender looking bottle, with a few grooves thrown in and plastic sides.

An inviting aromatic scent, it’s a spicy one which will warm up your cosy autumn or winter nights. The spicy scent hits you straight away, and is not the most powerful I have experienced, although it does pack a punch, so if a warm spicy smell is not what you like, you should avoid this.

It’s not a classic scent by any means, but if you’re looking for something a little bit different to what the others are wearing, this could be a contender. It lasts for a fair while, a few hours, long enough for an evening out. It’s definitely one for the night, I would not really recommend wearing this as daywear for work or college, people may think you’ve just rolled in from a night out!

Best season to wear – Autumn/Winter nights
Scent type – Aromatic/Spicy
Age Recommendation – 18+
Best Worn – Evening, Date Night, Casual

Notes

Paprika, Pimento, Benzoin, Woodworm

What do you think of Hotwater from Davidoff? Let me know, and you can check out more of my aftershave reviews if you’re on the look out for a new signature scent.

Spain Away Goalkeeper Shirt 2014

spain-away-goalkeeper-shirt-2014-3

YES! I have it….The first in the UK and maybe Europe, the Spain away goalkeeper shirt! 😀

I searched high and low, Adidas.es, Adidas UK, the usual UK shops and websites, and my usual Spanish websites, and nobody had this shirt. I eventually found it, so had to order it immediately, and it came quite quickly.

The away goalkeeper shirt for 2014 is a fluorescent yellow colour, and they have a very similar (almost identical) training shirt of the same colour, however it’s a slightly different style, and does not carry the World Cup 2010 badge which the Spain team uses in it’s match shirts. I got the home goalkeeper shirt 2014 some time ago, and when the away outfield shirt was announced and released I thought this would soon follow, but it seems very rare and hard to come by.

The badge, just like the other shirts this year, is mono coloured, and is fluorescent yellow and black instead of the usual colourful self. The shorts and socks are the same colour, making it an all neon affair.

I am not a big fan of fluorescent yellow on the black away shirt, I thought they could have used a better colour, it’s not very “Spanish”,  but  fluorescent yellow as a main colour is great, it reminds me of the 90s and it seems this year Adidas are really going for their neon and fluorescent colours.

My New Nike Air Max 1 For Air Max Day

Wednesday, 26th March, 2014

my new air max one

I am back on the Air Max horse 😀 Today is Air Max Day, and what better way to celebrate it than getting a brand new pair of Air Max. I am taking it back to the beginning, and got the infamous old school and original style, the Air Max 1.

I love my Converse collection, but I have decided that I would mix things up a bit and a pair of Air Max. I have a pair for running, however they are old and tired and are in really bad condition, I only use them for running and have done for a long time. For the past few years I have bought so many pair of Converse, and before that KSWISS, with the odd pair of Adidas in between. Now I have a fresh pair of Air Max, and I love them.

I love this colour, a nice light smart colour which is not too boring and dull, but not overpowering and bright. They come with the customary and iconic air bubble to the side, a classic design.

What do you think? What are your favourite pair of Air Max?

Popolo Closes – Is It To Reopen On Quayside?

Friday, 21st March, 2014

popolo-02

It was a shock yesterday when I heard about one of my favourite bars, in fact the 2nd best bar in Newcastle according to the latest index, Popolo announced it was closing down. Not only a shock to everyone who loves it, apparently the staff did not know a thing either. I love that end of the town, it’s a pretty cool place to go and chill, nice bars away from The Diamond Strip, and had a good number of people which is why it was surprising to many to hear about it’s closing.

Today it emerged that all may not be lost, and Popolo may be opening it’s doors again, but in a new location…The Quayside. The word is that they are moving there to a much bigger place, in fact 3x bigger across 2 floors. Where will this be? So far there is no word. I was down the quayside a few weeks ago and it’s a ghost town in comparison to the past; Offshore, Chase and Jimmyz all closed, and places such as Pravda, Blue/Julies 2 and Casa gone a long time ago.

If the size and fact it’s supposedly on 2 levels are anything to go by, Jimmyz could be the place as it was quite a size, Chase also has a basement and split level too, both of these venues have been on the market recently following their closure. Either way will they get back the atmosphere it created on Pilgrim Street? A firm favourite among 21-35 year olds, the award winning cocktail bar attracted the trendy-cool but down to earth crowd, with a laid back vibe.

So that’s another bar in Newcastle shutting it’s doors, at least for now.

Jalou Bar – Newcastle – Review

Friday, 21st March, 2014

Jalou Bar Newcastle

Located right next to the Central Station you’ll find Jalou. Formerly known as Destination, Jalou has taken on a new look, with stylish décor and a vibrant cocktail menu to match. Perfect for meeting friends, going out with the lads or lasses, or having a casual drink. Upon entering you’ll have to walk down a couple of steps to get into the bar, where there is a large seating area outside complete with tables and heaters. Head on inside for the bar, with plenty of standing space, and lots of tables and chairs for you and your mates.

The music on offer is house, with most people being around the 21-30 age range. You can party all night long for free, with the bar staying open until 2am at weekends.

Drinks At Jalou

Jalou is a cocktail bar, which also sells a variety of other drinks such as draught lager, alcopops, bottles and of course wine. Cocktails are from £7 to £9, and they do a large selection of Mojitos if that’s your flavour. Classics can also be drank, classic martinis, old fashioned and margaritas are on offer. Something which should not be missed is the Cookie Monster for £7.50.

No VIP style bar would be complete without the choice of full bottles of spirits and champagne. Get a bottle of Prosecco, or if you’re a player upgrade yourself to some Cristal.

Under Pouring Drinks At Jalou

The cocktails at Jalou used to be brilliant, and something which you had to go to the bar just to experience. However lately, they have been rather disappointing. On several occasions I have seem cocktails being under poured, and no real care, time or effort has been taken to make the drinks. It seems now they are trying to churn out as many drinks for as little cost as possible, mixing up big batches of cocktails to split between glasses if you order more than one, and packing the glass with ice to fill it up. The image below was a Cookie Monster I bought a few years back, and they don’t look much like that anymore, with stale oreos used, and not a well made cocktail at all.

Jalou free pour cocktails, which means that the bartender should be skilled and trained to be able to pour out a legal measure accurately, but this does not seem to be the case. They offer a cocktail making masterclass which I think they should let their staff go on.

Sadly I would no longer advise getting a cocktail, and stick to a regular drink.

Jalou Dress Code

Dress code is an unusual smart-casual, with an edge on smart, although don’t be surprised when you see guys wearing baseball caps, as this is a common theme. You may not be admitted if you are seen to be dressed too casually.

Hit Or Miss?

Despite the problems with cocktails, Jalou is still worth going to. The atmosphere is good, with RnB music being played out, a good crowd, outdoor seating at the front and a dancefloor in the middle, it continues to be a good night out at the Weekend, and is free entry. Check out more Newcastle Bar reviews to find other great nightspots to visit in the city.

Tokyo By Kenzo Eau De Toilette Review

Tuesday, 18th March, 2014

Kenzo Tokyo Men's Fragrance Review

I have been going through my old fragrances which I still have and came across Tokyo by Kenzo. It was released in 2007 but it’s now been discontinued, so I am glad I still have a bottle. It was never going to be a firm favourite, but it’s still quite a nice scent.

I like the bottle, the infamous Kenzo looks like it’s going to fall over bottle, a similar style to other Kenzo fragrances. The design on the bottle represents a night city sky such as Tokyo, with the bright lights of the city emphasised on the bottle.

The fragrance itself is a very intriguing one, and almost unique in it’s style. It’s a spicy and oriental type of scent, warm and inviting, so as you can imagine, it works it’s magic best on an evening. Once the initial spicy notes settle, you get a real sense of the woods which are pleasant to smell.

As this one is quite spicy and woody, I would say that it’s best worn on an evening, while out. Due to it’s unique characteristics and the fact that not many people have owned it, if you can still find a bottle, you’ll be the only person in the room wearing it.

This is a nice scent, but for me, the evening and night time fragrances have to have that little bit extra, something that bit special, and I don’t think this has it. That’s probably why I don’t wear it so often. During the day it’s a good time to experiment and try out different scents, but for an evening, I want the killer cologne, and although this is nice, it’s just not that.

Perhaps I’d wear this on a casual night when I want to smell good but not going on a big night out, it will do well.

For the longevity, as it’s a woody and spicy scent it will linger that little bit longer, and you can get 6-7 hours out of this one. It’s moderately strong, so it will have a nice projection, so there’s no need to over-spray.

Best season to wear – Autumn
Scent type – Spicy/Fruity/Fresh
Age Recommendation – 25+
Best Worn – Nightwear, Office, Date Night, Casual

Top Notes
Ginger, Grapefruit

Middle Notes
Maté, Green tea, Pink pepper, Orange

Base Notes
Cedar, Nutmeg, Cloves

Face Scrub And Hydrator From Scaramouche And Fandango

Monday, 17th March, 2014

scaramouche and fandango hydrator and facial scrub

Male grooming should be an important aspect of your life, and you should incorporate it into your daily routine as much as possible. This does not mean using 4 or 5 products every single day, but you should put some effort into keeping your skin looking fresh and healthy. Two good products to get you on your way are a facial scrub, and a moisturiser. I have these two from Scaramouche and Fandango.

The bottles are branded and marked with large colour coded initials, which is a nice touch. A facial scrub should only be used a few times a week, as it’s quite harsh, and removes dead skin cells and exfoliates your skin. The FS is a really nice scrub, smells good and does a nice job, not foaming up too much.

The HY hydrator keeps the skin soft and hydrated, hence the name, which is something you will benefit from. Both of these products will keep your skin smooth and soft, which will make shaving an overall nicer task.

If you are looking for a moisturiser/hydrator or a facial scrub, I can recommend giving these a try from Scaramouche And Fandango, which will set you back £10 and £8 respectively.
