The Men's Shoe Advice Guide - Shoes You Need To Own

How many shoes does the average man own?

How many shoes should a man own?

Exactly which shoes, and which style are must have for any man’s wardrobe? If you’re thinking any of these question, you’re in the right place. I am going to go through what I think are the shoes that every man should own, or to put it correctly, the footwear every man should own.

My shoe collection was terrible! I think we can all say we’ve been there at one stage or another, and maybe some are still there, but have no fear, this is the guide to help you. Back when I was younger I used to only footwear for 2 occasions; Smart and going out shoes, and then a pair for everything else.

This consisted of 1 nice, smart pair of shoes, which were usually derby or oxford, and then a pair of trainers for everyday wear. I hated shoes! This probably stemmed from having to wear them for school, walking around all day in uncomfortable footwear doesn’t exactly get you to fall in love with them, not to mention teenage years being forced to do something!

But then as we all get older and develop style, I have found a love for shoes and footwear, not only a love, but an appreciation. It can be anything; From high end pieces to classic pop culture Converse, Made In England shoes with proper workmanship or street style, whatever your preference there’s never been a better time to get into footwear.

With all of that said, what shoes does a man need in his wardrobe? Let’s get into it!

Selvedge Jeans From H&M Review

I love good quality denim.

I’ve bought a lot of high end jeans from high end fashion houses such as Balenciaga and Dior, to denim brands such as PRPS, Nudie Jeans and True Religion, and how can I forget Evisu, who use premium Japanese denim in most, if not all their jeans.

Good denim is well worth the money, from the fit to the finishing, you can tell the difference in a good pair of denim. If you’re a regular reader then you’ll remember I got a pair of Nudie Jeans Selvedge denim which are fantastic, and fast becoming one of my favourite pairs of denim I own.

Eton Shirt Review

Born in Gånghester in Sweden you’ll find a quality shirt maker Eton who’ve been making fine quality shirts for almost 100 years. If you’re looking for a shirt and want it premium made a specific way, then Eton is one of the best choices out there. There’s a vast array of options when you want to find your perfect shirt, you can start at the top with the collar type. There’s a nice seven different types of collar which you can choose from, including a classic cut-away to an extreme cut-away collar, to a button down style and pin collar type. The next decision is to choose the type of fabric; There’s a rich selection available, from Poplins and Oxford, to twill and linens. Each fabric is treated with the upmost care, detail and attention and have a premium feel to them. The next aspect would be to select your favourite fit, and as you’d expect they have all the bases covered, offering classic, contemporary, slim and the increasingly popular slim fit styles.

I selected a solid black shirt from their red ribbon collection which they sent over for me to try out for myself. I love a black shirt, and I have many in my wardrobe. From a fashion point of view a good quality black shirt is as important as a good quality white shirt. Both are staples which you should have in your wardrobe, classic in colour and can be worn with almost anything, in either a casual or formal setting. From opening the box one of the first things which is apparent is the quality of the fabric. This shirt comes in Exeter Poplin which is quite a rich, soft cotton and is extremely soft to touch. Keeping your shirt sharp and crisp is important, and this is very easy to iron and is a really smooth fabric.

The collar style is a cut-away, and is a slim fit which is my favourite type of cut. The detailing is minimal, with same colour stitching and buttons to maintain a elegant look.

Attention to detail is highly important at Eton, and there shirt guides which includes a comprehensive look at their fabrics, collar types and fits is a must-view, you can check it out here.

If you’re looking for a premium quality shirt then Eton is a good choice, you can take a look at their collections and shop on their site here.

Nike Air Max 90 – All Black, Super Stylish, Minimal

Nike Air Max 90 Trainers

I needed some dark coloured trainers, so the obvious colour is black, and wanted something super smart, but also really comfortable for walking round in for when I am in Reykjavik, if I actually get there! 🙁 . I love my Air Max 1 which I got earlier this year, I love the colour, but they can get dirty easily, and I want something more neutral and dark.

I am back into Nike Air Max, like I was as a kid, and I love these Air Max 90 trainers. They are so minimal, sleek and unnoticeable! I could probably even wear them on a night out and they’d go pretty unnoticed. I still like my Converse, but if you’ve ever walked a lot in Converse you’ll know they aren’t the greatest trainers for walking long distances for long periods of time. Air Max are so comfortable, and these are really smart and stylish. They seem more durable than the Air Max 95 because of the construction, but are still breathable and are slightly narrower than the 95’s.

If I ever need some smart looking trainers for something low key, I have these beauties 🙂
