Hood Street Club – Newcastle Bar

Newcastle Nightlife
Wednesday, 17th October, 2012

Newcastle’s latest exclusive VIP bar has opened it’s doors, and it’s called Hood Street Club.

The bar is on Hood Street, which is just off Grey Street in Newcastle. It was formerly Bar 42 which offered cheaper drinks and trebles, once quite popular but then started the crowds started to disappear. Fluid Group which own other bars in the town such as Perdu have taken this over and transformed it, saying it’s “Styled on the private drinking clubs of London and New York”.

They offer an array of private booths and a VIP area and include what they call unrivalled service. They also mention a strict door policy, but no mention of what that actually is. The place is for “Discerning adults who want a night out in luxurious surroundings and who want to be looked after”.

Currently it is open Thursday – Sunday, 19:00 – 03:00. Cocktails start at just under £7 or upgrade yourself to a bottle of Dom Perignon for £200.

It certainly sounds like it has a lot to live up to.

The Newcastle bar scene has change over the past several years, with more and more upmarket bars taking the place of the cheap and cheerful drinking establishments. The usual spot for these are Collingwood Street, christened The Diamond Strip by many, saw The Apartment which was one of the first exclusive style bars with an optional membership. While busy at first, the place soon changed and now (extended) stands three different bars, Madame Koo, Floritas and now House Of Smith, which was Baby Lynch. Further down there is Perdu, and further still is Bijoux. Other upmarket establishments include Ohso, Jalou and Label.

Where will Hood Street Club fit into the Newcastle bar scene?
