Film Night: The House With Will Ferrell & Amy Poehler

I was browsing around films to watch and wanted something light and funny to watch, and came across this film called The House with Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. I like both of these actors, and so I decided to give this film a watch, although I knew nothing about it.

It’s basically about A family with Scott (Ferrell) and Kate (Poehler) being proud parents of a daughter, Alex, who’s just finished high school and plans on going to university. She gets accepted, but then university is expensive. Not to worry, because her town has a scholarship programme, but at a town meeting Bob, the person in charge of the council, announces plans to remove the scholarship in favour of building a community pool.

Scott and Kate cannot afford to send Alex to Uni, but don’t tell this to her. Struggling to come up with ideas on how to finance it, they have a conversation with their best friend Frank, who’s going through a divorce with his wife as he’s a gambling addict. They all go to Vegas and start winning at craps, but then Scott “jinxes” the table by saying, don’t roll a seven.

He gives the couple the idea of running an underground casino of their own, from his house, in the hopes of raising the cash for Uni with Frank also trying to win back his wife. Since this is an underground casino it has to be run in secret, but with Frank getting bigger and bigger plans for it, it’s only a matter of time before they are found out.

There’s a few more twists and turns in the film, but I won’t post any spoilers.

Overall I think that the film was a pretty decent watch. It was quite funny in places, light and easy to watch, so I can recommend watching it if you’re looking for a Will Ferrell kind of comedy film with a few hours to spare.
