The Founder McDonalds Film Review

It’s another film night! πŸ˜€

So this week I watched a film which I hadn’t even heard of called The Founder. I saw it on Amazon Prime and decided that I would watch the trailer to see what it was all about, and I loved it so much I had to watch the film.

It’s a film which is based on the story of McDonalds. Some people love films like fantasy films like Harry Potter, but for me I am really into these kinds of biographical and even documentary style films based on real life. I love films like The Wolf Of Wall Street and The Social Network, this is a similar style of film, but all about those golden arches.

So as mentioned it’s all about McDonalds, how it was started, and the whole story which stretches from 1954 right up until the 1970s. It documents how a man called Ray Kroc from Illinois was a travelling salesman selling milkshake mixers, and happens to get a large order from two brothers with a restaurant out in San Bernardino. Curious, rather than sending the mixers he goes out there himself, and is blown away by what the restaurant does.

Rather than the super slow service with people waiting in cars for their food which was the norm back then, people went up to the counter, ordered and got their food within 30 seconds, and used disposable napkins and bags, no cutlery or plates required. He thought this was genius, and took the brothers out for dinner so he could learn more. He had a driven personality and wanted more than what he had, and decided he wanted to get in on the action. He talked them into franchising, and then the film goes from there.

It’s about the characters as much as the story line. You’ve got Ray Kroc, the man driven for success and money, and his wife who’s happy with a comfortable life. The two McDonald’s brothers; Mac and Dick, who are smart but slightly naive and just want to be moderately successful with their restaurant, and not compromise quality. These are the three main characters in the film.

It’s kind of weird, because I am sure we’ve all ate McDonalds for years and years, but probably none of us know the story of where it all began. Now I’ve seen this film I guess I do, and it’s really good story and makes you think how far “fast food” has came.

  2. Michael Said,

Yeah it’s a great story, Ray Kroc is not a good guy, but the story is good.
