August 2018 Transfer Deadline Day - The Best Deals

It’s transfer deadline day, and all the deals are done! Which players are going where, and who’ll be playing next season in the Premier League?

Deadline day is always exciting, twice a year, but the August one is usually the most exciting, as it starts before the season. This year, for the first time, the transfer window closes earlier; On the eve of the first Premier League match, which will be Leicester vs Man United tomorrow.

It’s been a really exciting transfer window, and deadline day did not disappoint either. But who was making all the waves?

Here’s the best transfer deadline day deals which I’ve been excited about.

Kepa to Chelsea

Kepa Arrizabalaga – Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea (£72M €80M)

Mateo Kovacic – Real Madrid to Chelsea (loan)

Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea to Real Madrid (£35M)

Kepa moves to Chelsea and becomes the most expensive goalkeeper in the world, at €80M. A great move for the player, the Permier League and the national team of Spain, to have their two best goalkeepers playing in the Premier League.

Chelsea also got Kovacic on loan, with Courtois going in the other direction for £35M.

Yerry Mina To Everton

Yerry Mina – Barcelona to Everton (£28.5M)

Andre Gomes – Barcelona to Everton (loan)

One of the most promising defenders at the World Cup, Yerry Mina of Colombia has completed a move from Barcelona to Everton for £28.5M. I was impressed when watching him and thought he would get a move or at least more game time, it will be exciting to see him in the Premier League. South American players are a bit hit and miss when they come to England, hopefully he’ll be a hit.

Everton also got Andre Gomes from Barcelona on loan.

Other Deadline Day Deals

Danny Ings – Liverpool to Southampton (loan)

Bernard – Shakthar Donetsk to Everton (free)

Carlos Sanchez – Fiorentina to Wolves

Sergio Rico – Sevilla to Fulham (loan)

Luciano Vietto – Atletico Madrid to Fulham (loan)

Martin Montoya – Valencia to Brighton

Lucas Perez – Arsenal to West Ham (£4M)

Leander Dendoncker – Anderlecht to Wolves (loan)

Filip Benkovic – Dinamo Zagreb to Leicester (£18M)

Federico Fernandez – Swansea to Newcastle

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa – Marseille to Fulham (£22.3M)

Which Club Has Done The Best Transfer Business This Window?

The big clubs signed a couple of players each for pretty large sums of money, but got their business done early. The window has belonged to the smaller teams. Everton, Wolves, Fulham and West Ham have spent huge amounts of money for the size of their clubs, with Wolves and Fulham only being promoted this season.

They have outspent clubs like Southampton, Newcastle, Leicester, Huddersfield, Brighton and Burnley, clubs you’d think would either survive or battle for relegation; Now 2 of the promoted clubs have spent big it will be interesting to see how well they do.

Could West Ham and Everton make a real challenge for the Top 4?

Here’s some of the biggest transfers this Summer, club by club.

Arsenal

Arsenal got their transfers in before the end of the window, signing the likes of Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth made two big signings, Jefferson Lerma costing £25M and Diego Rico also brought in.

Brighton

Brighton brought in Martin Montoya on deadline day, their only other big money signing was Bernardo from RB Leipzig

Burnley

Burnley held on to their core players, and added club record signing Ben Gibson for £15M, as well as Joe Hart and Matej Vydra

Cardiff

Cardiff have brought in a couple of players, including splashing out £10M on Bobby Reid from Bristol City

Chelsea

Chelsea got Robert Green on a free, then broke the goalkeeper transfer record with Kepa, and had already secured the signing of Jorginho earlier in the window.

Crystal Palace

The potential wonder kid of German football, Max Meyer surprisingly signed for Crystal Palace, which could be a massive coup.

Everton

Everton have spent big again this year, as they did 12 months ago. They’ve brought in Richarlison £35m, Lucas Digne £18m, Bernard Free, Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina.

Fulham

Fulham have brought in a huge amount of players, spending big money for a team who’s just been promoted. They’ve signed the likes of Calum Chambers and Andre Schurrle on loan, Fabri, Maxime le Marchand, Jean Michael Seri, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Alfie Mawson and Joe Bryan. Reported spending is around £100M!

Huddersfield

Huddersfield have brought in the likes of Juninho Bacuna, Ramadan Sobhi, Terence Kongolo and Erik Durm.

Leicester City

Leicester have got the likes of James Maddison, Jonny Evans, Danny Ward, Ricardo Pereira and , Filip Benkovic

Liverpool

Liverpool got their business done early, they broke the goalkeeper transfer record with the signing of Allison, before that was broken by Chelsea and Kepa. Other players brought in include Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita

Man City

Like the other big teams, Man City done their business early. Riyad Mahrez finally got his move, and cost the club £60M, but will he play?

Man United

There was rumours all deadline day and the days preceding that Man United would sign a player, but it did not happen. Earlier in the window they signed Fred (£47m), Diogo Dalot (£19m) and Lee Grant.

Newcastle United

Another frustrating window for Newcastle. Mitrovic, Gayle and Mbemba all went out. Incoming players are Fabian Schar, Martin Dubravka, Ki Sung-yeung, Yoshinori Muto and Federico Fernandez, with Kenedy and Rondon coming in on loan.

Southampton

Southampton brought in a few players before the window closed, and the latest is that Danny Ings has just joined the club on loan with a view to buy. Mohamed Elyounoussi, Stuart Armstrong, Jannik Vestergaard and Angus Gunn all came in.

Tottenham

Tottenham were the only club, and are the only club ever, to not bring in any players in the Summer.

Watford

Watford made the signing of Gerard Deulofeu permanent, also bringing in the likes of Ben Foster Adam Masina and Domingos Quina.

West Ham

It was a massive window for West Ham. Felipe Anderson cost a rumoured £42M, with Issa Diop reportedly costing £22M and Yarmalenko costing around £17.5M. They’ve also signed Lukasz Fabianski, Ryan Fredericks, Fabian Balbuena and Jack Wilshere, as well as Lucas Perez and Carlos Sanchez on deadline day.

Wolves

Like Fulham, Wolves have been extremely busy. They’ve brought in the likes of Adama Traore, Rui Patricio, Willy Boly, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker.

How has your club done? Who do you think was the best deal, and which club do you think has done the best business?
