Steve Jobs Blu Ray Film Review

stevejobs-film

After watching Straight Outta Compton, another film I got which I wanted to watch was the Steve Jobs film. I am not an Apple fanboy, but I like my iPhone and we’ve all been exposed to all things Apple since the iPod one way or another. Steve Jobs was one of the founders of Apple as you are probably already aware, but sadly passed away in 2011. The film is obviously based around him and Apple, and since I’m interested in tech I wanted to check out this film and know more of the story.

The film is basically split into three parts for 3 different product launches; 1984 for the Apple Macintosh launch, 1988 for the NeXT launch and finally in 1998 for the iMac launch. As for the film itself, I think it’s a really good film, and all the actors play their parts well; From Fassbender as Steve Jobs, Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman and Seth Rogan as Steve Wozniak, they’re all good, as is the storyline and directed by Danny Boyle too.

If you are a massive fan and devout follower of all things Apple and Steve Jobs then you may not like how he’s portrayed, which is pretty much a complete douche. It does a great job of showing why many people both love and loathe his philosophies and ways of doing things, so in that respect, the film was good.

However his and Apple’s major successes in the mainstream have been the iPod, iPhone and iTunes…The film only touches on an iPod right at the end when Jobs is on the roof with his daughter talking about her ‘ugly’ Walkman and how he’s going to put 100s, or 1000s of songs in her pocket, clearly referencing a future iPod.

The film although good, feels like it’s cheating you out of the actual real mainstream successes of Apple; In the early days their computers were quite specialised, and most people only know of Apple from the iPod and onwards, none of which are in the film. Maybe they’re saving it for “Steve Jobs 2”.

It’s a good film to watch if you want to know how Apple was all started, but if you’re looking for the inside scoop on the later years, it’s sadly not in the film.

Enjoy The Post? Let's have a drink 🍻
