Spain vs Honduras – Olympic Football @ Newcastle

Football, Lifestyle, Spanish Football
Monday, 30th July, 2012

So the second game of the day was the big one, the one I went for, Spain vs Honduras. Since Spain lost the first game they really needed to win this one, and it did not seem like any other result would happen.

Spain started off alright, but then after about 10 minutes the unthinkable happened…Honduras scored!? Unbelievable. It was a more or less free header, most of the crowd including the Honduras fan sitting in front of me were pretty shocked. Spain had a poor first half and Honduras went in at half time with a 1-0 lead.

The second half Spain came out, and actually started playing football, especially in the final 30 minutes. They had chance after chance, hitting the bar, post, putting shots just wide, controlling the game and running the show. They played amazing, the flowing football was sensational to watch.

Luis Milla the manager tried everything, going all out attack by bringing on Tello and Rodrigo, with Adrián, Muniain and Mata on the pitch that meant 5 forward players for the end of the game. David De Gea even came up for a free kick! 😀 (check pics below) but could not make the difference.

Then Spain should have had a penalty! It was clearly a foul and the referee did not give it. The Spanish players went mental at the referee and the Hondurans, it was a penalty as far as I could see, but the ref did not give it. Honduras spent the whole second half wasting time, and as the game went on they tried to waste more and more.

But it was not to be, Spain ended up losing 1-0 despite throwing the kitchen sink at Honduras.

The Hondurans were happy, the players, the fans, it was party time for them.

Muniain was an absolute star! He was the best player on the pitch by a mile, he was in a class of his own. Ander Herrera came on and made an impact, and Juan Mata also had a really good game. It was amazing to see Javi Martinez and Jordi Alba too 😀

Spain starting 11

De Gea, Dominguez, Jordi Alba, Montoya, Botía, Javi Martinez, Koke, Mata, Isco, Muniain and Adrián.

Muniain for the Spain National team in 2014? // Muniain para La Selección Española 2014 en Brasil? Si, Si, Si!!!!!

Iker Muniain, increíble y impresionante! el futuro de España!
