Music Playlist – February 2019

Wednesday, 27th February, 2019

The Michael 84 Playlist

It’s almost the end of February, so that means another look at what I’ve been listening to in the February playlist!

Music is starting to get good for 2019, with a slow start to the year as it usually is, I’ve found a couple of new tracks which I really like. It was the Brits last week which was fairly decent, but I think that the awards shows these days are just not the same. I don’t think they’re as big of a deal as they used to be, now we’re in the Internet age the artists can reach people online, and they don’t feel as big as they once did.

I have to talk about the UK charts, because it’s the first time ever that someone has knocked themselves off number one. Ariana Grande was #1, and then she knocked herself off #1, something which has never happened before. I think it goes to show how the chart doesn’t matter any more, does anyone actually care too much about chart position any more?

Anyway, I’ve been listening to the new Robyn track, Send To Robin Immediately, which I really like. The video is pretty good too, you’ve got to check it out.

Here’s my playlist in full.

Playlist: What I’ve Been Listening To In January 2019

Monday, 21st January, 2019

The Michael 84 Playlist

It’s January, it’s 2019 and so it’s time for some new music! There has been a couple of new songs which I have added to my playlist, but January is usually seen as the month where nothing much happens in terms of new music, and we used to see lots of odd songs make it to number 1 back in the day.

A new month means a new release for Ariana Grande, with her new track called 7 Rings. I have given it a listen I’m not much of a fan, it could be a grower. It samples ‘my favourite things’, and I am still not too sure what to make of it.

I have also heard “Sweet But Psycho” played far too much, everywhere I go I hear it, so I have to include it in the list. It’s a song which is growing on me I have to admit.

Since watching the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last month I’ve been listening to the tracks from the performers quite a bit; Bebe Rexha, Rita Ora and Halsey being three of the artists who performed.

It’s also nice to hear Theophilus London & Tame Impala – Only You getting played more. I heard this a few months ago and it seems it’s being played more and more, a great track which has retro roots.

Music Playlist: What I’ve Been Listening To In November

Wednesday, 28th November, 2018

The Michael 84 Playlist

Hey guys!

It’s nearing the end of the month, which means another music playlist once again. It’s so weird, we had no big Summer tracks, but I’ve discovered a couple of songs in recent months which are real Summer bangers which I’ve been listening to constantly.

There are the Robyn tracks from her latest album, Honey and Missing U which are big tunes! I’ve been listening to them a lot, and really like them. Then there’s Dished from Purple Disco Machine, the most annoyingly catchy song which you can’t help but love. It’s a Summer club track, and still sounds good.

Then there’s two Spanish songs, Lo Malo from Aitana Ocaña and Ana Guerra and Alvaro Soler – La Cintura which was actually on my playlist in July. I only gave it a listen once or twice, but now I can’t stop playing it.

The Rebecca and Fiona track, Money, has been around for a while, but since they released a new music video several weeks ago, I’ve been listening to that more and more. Then there’s Thank U, Next from Ariana Grande which you can’t get away from – Good job it’s a cool track.

The 90’s was my decade, if you read my blog you’ll know that, and so the song 1999 from Charli XCX has to make it into the list. It’s odd that she has this song referencing music from the 90’s, and Anne-Marie had 2002 referencing some of the same music; Confirmation that the 90’s was the best 😉

I randomly heard this track on the radio which sounds so familiar, it’s by Theophilus London & Tame Impala and called Only You. It’s a sample/cover, so I’ve probably heard the original before (it was by Steve Montie I think), it doesn’t bring back memories, but it’s such a good track if you’re into more soulful music.

It’s the last month until December, where I’ll probably be listening to a lot of Christmas songs. So here’s my playlist in full until then…

Music Talk: October Playlist

Wednesday, 24th October, 2018

The Michael 84 Playlist

We’re almost at the end of October and it seems like the music has just begun for 2018! Robyn is releasing an album, and I’ve heard a couple of tracks from it which I am loving. I included Missing U on the September playlist, but for this one I can also include Honey, another track which I think is so cool.

Rebecca and Fiona also have another track, called Money. Once again I love this and have been listening to this (and Robyn) more or less every day at least once, usually more. It’s a feel good, uptempo kind of song which has that 90’s pop kind of feel to it which I will never stop loving.

There is also a song which is incredibly annoying, but I can’t get it out of my head. I hear it on the radio almost every morning, it’s Purple Disco Machine – Dished – How annoying is that hook!?! Annoying, but catchy, I can’t stop it going round in my head.

Here’s the playlist for October.

Music Playlist: September 2018

Tuesday, 25th September, 2018

The Michael 84 Playlist

It’s been quite an unusual month for music, it’s been quiet in the singles front, but Eminem released an album, and Robyn also finally released an album too. I’ve heard a couple of tracks on the Eminem album and think it’s pretty good, and heard one track on the Robyn album which I love!

Apart from that, I haven’t listened to much new music, perhaps I am getting old and only listening to old music, or maybe there’s just not been too much that’s stood out? I have to say, the new Robyn track, Missing U, is something I really love, and is classic Robyn. I think I’ll be listening to this one for a while!

Here is my playlist below.

Music Playlist: August 2018

Wednesday, 29th August, 2018

The Michael 84 Playlist

It’s the last month of the Summer, and I am sad to say that we’ve not really had a Summer banger of a hit song this year. When it comes to music for this half of the year, you probably have to say it has belonged to Ariana Grande, who seems to have been everywhere with her album and all of the tracks getting constant airplay.

Since we’ve had no bangers this summer, I’ve actually been listening to some old school songs from previous summers. It’s kind of sad that we haven’t had many big hits for quite some time, it’s kind of hard to see where the next big one will come from.

The playlist is very much the same as it was, with a few new entries.

Music Playlist: July 2018

Wednesday, 1st August, 2018

The Michael 84 Playlist

Where did July go!

We’re into August now, so here’s the music which I’ve been listening to in July.

It looks like this year we won’t get a Summer banger. I have listened to quite a bit new music in the last couple of days to come up with a playlist of fresh new tracks, but I have been listening to some older stuff too, I may post that up at a later date.

Ariana Grande is everywhere at the moment, she’s in every chart, and it feels like every single from the album is getting some air time, along with Cardi B too. I had to feature at least one of their tracks in the playlist, since you can’t really listen to any music without hearing one or both of them in the mainstream.

Here’s my playlist for July.

Football Anthems Playlist For The World Cup

Friday, 6th July, 2018

The Michael 84 Playlist

If you haven’t got World Cup fever there’s something wrong with you. It’s getting to the serious stages now, and since we’re almost into the weekend, music is called for, but not any old music, football songs!

I’ve created a football anthems playlist which I think is perfect if you’re looking for ideas or inspiration for this weekend. I am sad that Spain lost, but for everyone else in the country that supports England, this will be a big weekend!

The playlist includes all the usual bangers you’d expect to see, a couple of novelty footy tunes as well as a mix of dance and Indie tracks which have made their way into football history being sung at grounds around the World. Whether it’s the John Barnes rap, Football’s Coming Home, Shouting Mitro’s on fire or just humming along to Seven Nation Army, they’re all hits and easy to join in with.

Check out the playlist, and if you want to listen to the whole thing, it is on YouTube below. 25 songs which are all about football, having a good time and singing as loud as you possibly can.
