Microsoft Surface Tablets: Coming Soon

Tech Blog
Friday, 22nd June, 2012

For a long time I have been waiting for some real competition for the Apple iPad, and it has been quite quiet on that front. Microsoft have been developing their latest OS, Windows 8, and a variation which will be optimised for touchscreens and tablet like devices. Earlier this week, Microsoft unveiled it’s own tablet, the Microsoft Surface Tablet.

In fact it comes in two flavours; The Surface for Windows RT tablet, and the more powerful Surface for Windows 8 tablet.

It is hard to distinguish between the two, and who they are to be marketed for. The theory is that the less powerful of the two (although still powerful for a tablet) will be sold as a tablet, whereas the more powerful will be more like an ultrabook.

Key features of the two are the ultra thin clip on keyboard, 10.6″ HD screen, but they do have their differences in terms of specification, such as the cheaper RT model being both lighter and thinner than the Windows 8 variant.

Surface For Windows 8

Key differences between the two are the power (CPU), as well as the size and weight of the two devices. The Win 8 model comes with more ports and many will call it a more “pro” device, however the Windows RT version comes bundled with Office and is lighter and thinner, so will have it’s place in the market.

Both models have no price at the moment, which will probably be the thing which makes or breaks these devices.
