Japan vs Morocco Olympic Football @ St. James’ Park

Football, Lifestyle
Monday, 30th July, 2012

I have already blogged about the ticketing shambles, so I will put that away now and talk about the first game, Morocco vs Japan 😀

First of all when we went into the ground there were a few Moroccans having lots of fun, creating a great atmosphere and making lots of noise, dancing around, it was great 😀 Their fans were really good, making a carnival party type of atmosphere.

We walking into the ground and the coach had just pulled up, the Moroccan team were getting off it so I got a few pics of that. I got into the ground and saw that a few of the players were checking out the stadium, one being interviewed for something which was cool.

The game started and it was not the best game of football I have seen. Morocco had the best of the chances in both the first and second half, but then Japan created a few chances of their own. Japan finally scored, after around 80 minutes, and lead 1-0. I was sitting next to lots of the Japan fans (there were more Japan fans than Morocco, Spain and Honduras combined!) and they went crazy 😀 They were good fans, they had banners all around the stadium, and they did outnumber all the other fans combined, and had some rather odd chanting

Morocco tried everything to score but couldn’t, and Japan went on to win the game 1-0 and they have qualified for the quarter finals. At the end of the game the Japan players came over to the crowd and thanked them, that was pretty cool 🙂

Here are some of the pictures from the game.
