iPhone 6, 6 Plus, Apple Watch And Apple Payments Announced Today

Tech Blog
Tuesday, 9th September, 2014

Today was the day, after months of speculation about a rumoured iWatch and new iPhones, Apple officially announced their upcoming gadgets at their keynote earlier tonight. The keynote itself was a bit of a technological sham, with many people, including myself unable to watch it properly with it keep going down and looping some parts, it was a nightmare to watch.

The iPhone 6 will be the next model in the iPhone line up, and it’s joined by a second device which they’re calling the iPhone 6 Plus, a bigger version of the phone. The rumours were correct, these devices come in at 4.7 and 5.5 inch, both being bigger than the 4 inch iPhone 5/5c/5s. What are some of the highlights?

  • A new “Retina HD” display
  • Thinner; iPhone 6 is 6.9mm and the Plus is 7.1mm
  • iPhone 6 display – 1334 x 750. iPhone 6 Plus display 1920 x 1080
  • 64 Bit, A8 CPU and M8 Motion Co-Processor
  • New camera sensor; 2.2f, 8MP, digital stabilisation on the 6 and optical stabilisation in the 6 Plus
  • Faster WIFI and More LTE support
  • Touch ID technology
  • 16, 64 and 128GB sizes
  • Panorama Photos up to 43MP
  • 1080p HD Video recording up to 60fps
  • Time-lapse Video
  • Slo-Mo video (120 or 240fps)
  • Improved 2.2f FaceTime camera
  •  NFC
  • Better battery! – Improved talk time, standby time and internet usage
  • Barometer

They will be available to pre-order from this Friday, 12th September! The release date is 19th September.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus UK Pricing

SIM FREE / Pay As You Go Pricing

iPhone 6 (4.7 Inch) – £539 (16GB), £619 (64GB), £699 (128GB)
iPhone 6 Plus (5.5 Inch) – £619 (16GB), £699 (64GB), £789 (128GB)

Apple Payments

Apple also announced a new service, Apple Payments. The system works in a similar way to NFC and contactless payments which already exist, you’ll be able to pay via your new iPhone with just a touch. It will be rolled out in the USA first before making it’s way over here.

The Apple Watch

No, it’s not called the iWatch, they’re calling it the Apple Watch. It was unveiled and announced, but Apple have confirmed that it will not be released until 2015. There’s 3 models to choose from; The Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition. They’ll come in 38mm and 42mm sizes, with a large number of collections for straps and the like. The Edition will feature 18 karat gold, and seems to be more aimed at the stylish market. There’s a HUGE amount of features, so you should check them all out here.

The device will compliment with your iPhone, so if you don’t own one, it seems that it will be useless.

The cost is unofficially said to be $350, which could mean around £299 once it makes it’s way over here, and I imagine that the 3 different models will cost a different amount, obviously the Edition will be the top of the line.
