Huawei P20 Pro: A Good Looking Mobile Phone With Three Cameras

Wednesday, 18th April, 2018

Huawei P20 Pro - Serious competition for the iPhone X and Samsung S9

There’s a new phone on the block which is putting iPhone, Samsung and the rest to shame when it comes to the cameras on their phones; The brand new P20 Pro from Huawei.

Huawei has been making inroads into the smart phone market over the past couple of years. The Chinese company has made a couple of pretty good phones in the past year on paper at least, but the latest offerings, the P20 and P20 Pro could be considered serious contenders for those looking to make a bold switch, especially if you like taking photos. It’s the party piece of the P20 Pro, it has not one, not two but three cameras on the back, as well as the front side camera too.

Phones Have Become About Cameras (Again)

Mobile phone cameras have came a long way. I remember back when they first came around, everyone wanted to buy a phone with the best camera, and back then it was judged that the best camera was the one with the most megapixels. The rest of the features and design came second, everyone was camera obsessed. Then people realised that the megapixel race was kind of pointless, and it became less of an issue. Smart phones came around, and although cameras were still a big selling point, it was more about apps and social media.

However in the past recent years we’ve seen the re-emergence of phone companies using the camera as the main selling point; From Apple’s Animoji to the AR Emoji Samsung are now providing.

Huawei are now beating them all. Their brand new triple camera set up in their phone is touted as the best camera in any smartphone of all time. It scores higher than all it’s competitors, including the Google Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X on DXOMark.com.

Huawei P20 Pro Triple Camera - A Preview

The design is not too shabby either, in fact I think it looks brilliant! The sleek design comes in a range of colours, including standards like black, but my colour would be the cosmic looking colour which they call twilight.

The hardware and internals are also very good; 6GB RAM and an Octa-core CPU with the 6.1″ screen and a slot for 128GB of storage. The price is also less, you can pick it up for £799, which is expensive for a phone, but less than the iPhone X and Samsung S9 Plus, two phones you could put this up against.

So it’s a nice looking, tech heavy camera capable phone. This runs the latest version of Android, so if that’s your favourite flavour of mobile OS, this should be seriously considered. For the iOS users like myself, it’s something to think about too, although personally I’m not ready to leave iOS just yet.

The Huawei P20 Pro is available right now. What do you think of it?
