Confederations Cup – Spain 2 – 1 Uruguay

Monday, 17th June, 2013

Spain got their Confederations Cup off to a good start with a convincing 2-1 win over Uruguay last night.

Uruguay did not come out and play for the first 20 minutes, sitting back and playing with every man behind the ball, Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani did not venture into the Spain half all too often.

Pedro’s deflected shot put Spain 1-0 up after 20 minutes, and after that Uruguay started to attempt to play a little, but Spain kept possession well and Uruguay did not threat at all. Soldado made it 2-0 with an amazing goal, Fabregas showed what an amazing player he was with an equisite pass, Soldado was left all alone and had time to pick his spot and made it 2-0 after 32 minutes. Fabregas also hit the post earlier in the game, and was probably the man of the match, although Iniesta also had a typically brilliant game.

It was more of the same in the 2nd half, but Spain could not break down the defensive Uruguay. Luis Suarez gave them hope with a 88th minute free kick, but it was a deserved win for Spain, the game ended 2-1 but it was a comfortable win for Spain.

Del Boque started with Soldado, Pedro and Fabregas which was a surprise to me, David Villa and Torres did not get in the game, Juan Mata, Martinez and Cazorla all came on.

Jordi Alba
Xavi (subbed for Martinez)
Fabregas (subbed for Cazorla)
Pedro (subbed for Mata)
