Men’s Fashion Tips – Winter Coat & Jacket Buying Guide

Canada Goose Jackets For Winter

UPDATED FOR 2017

Brrr it’s getting cold in ‘ere! Winter is here, or coming, depending on where in the world you live and when you’re reading this post 😉 One way or another you’ll be experiencing the depths of winter sometime soon, so you’ll need a winter coat or jacket to get you through a few horrible months of the miserable British winter weather.

Buying a good winter coat is not only important for the first year you purchase it, but it can become a good investment piece, lasting a good few winters before you need to splash out and buy another. With that said, investing in a good jacket is not only worth it because you’ll be getting much better quality which will be noticeable when you wear it, as well as it lasting longer than a cheap and cheerful coat.

Men’s Summer Fashion Tips – Sweat Shorts [UPDATED 2017]

mens-sweat-shorts-1

UPDATED FOR 2017

Sweatpants have been thought of for a long time as super casual, and of course they can be worn for a laid back and chilled out style. However more recently we’ve seen a resurgence in sport luxe fashion, with higher end menswear brands showcasing their take on the trends, with casual tops and bottoms including more stylish, better cut sweat pants and joggers. From that comes the summer trend of sweat shorts, and it’s something I really like and have embraced.

You may remember I got a few pair of sweat shorts from H&M a short while ago, and I really like them. At only £8 a pair you can’t go wrong, and they are good quality with a really nice fit. The summer season is here, and other fashion labels and brands have an array of sweat shorts ready for you to buy, in a range of colours and styles.

Suede Jackets For Autumn – This Season’s Trend

michael84-mens-fashion-suede-jacket-jofama-7

As you’ll have read in my Spring Suede Jackets guide, I love a good soft leather jacket. They’re not only perfect for Spring, but they’re a great style of jacket to wear in the Autumn too. As you’ll know, suede is a type of leather which has a napped finish, with lamb and goat most commonly used, with calf and even deer also being used. The jackets are usually pretty tough and thick, which means wearing one of these in the Autumn is a really good go to piece, with a lot of styles and colours now available. The enemy of suede is rain and water, although you can get suede protectors which will do a good job if you get caught out in the rain.

As with every piece of clothing, there’s plenty of choice at all different price-points. Typically with leather jackets, a genuine suede jacket will start at around £100, and from there goes upwards to whatever your wallet can afford! Grab a high street label such as Mango or Topman for under £150, premium high street brands such as Reiss or Ted Baker will come in at £200 – £400, and luxury and designer brands like Burberry and Tom Ford will run into the thousands.

A suede jacket can be looked at as a good investment, and should last you plenty of Autumn and mild Winters to come, providing you look after it well enough. They’re timeless, so you don’t have to worry about them going out of style, one to your wardrobe or expanding it with a different colour or style is something to consider.

Here’s over 30 of the best suede jackets for this season, from the high street and luxury brands, there’s something for everyone’s budget.

Budget University Style & Cheap Fashion Essentials For Guys 2016

Inspiration And Ideas For University Style For Guys

Going to University can be expensive, but fortunately your style does not have to be. You can get some really great basic and staple pieces ready to wear at university, even if you’re on a budget. Here I’ll go through some basic fashion essentials which you should be buying and wearing at uni or college.

University/College Student Budget Preparing – Only Buy What You Need

It’s really easy to go shopping for clothing and getting home having spent hundreds on pretty much the same style of types of items. You don’t need 5 pairs of the same jeans in the same wash, especially when you’re on a budget. You need to create a streamline wardrobe, a capsule wardrobe, with a variety of key pieces, rather than a lot of the same fashion.

Men’s Style Advice – Fashion Friday No.9

Fashion Friday - Men's Fashion Tips Number 9

Did you miss it last week? Well it’s back! Fashion Friday no.9 is here 🙂 I have been running so many features on the blog lately I thought I would give this one a bit of a break, and it’s always been thought of as a weekly/bi-weekly feature, so I can focus on the best men’s clothing to give the best fashion tips out there.

Nudie Jeans Adrian Parka – £460 – here

New Look Knitted Jumper – £19.99 – here

Happy socks – £8 – here

Cheap Monday Dictionary T-Shirt – £25 – here

Armani 2-Pack T-Shirts – £26 – here

Burton Bomber Jacket – £14 – here

Superdry Leather Jacket – £200 – here

Selected Homme Merino Knit – £55 – here

First up is this amazingly warm Adrian parka from Nudie Jeans. We’ve had miserable weather in the last few days, fog and rain, and it’s a reminder that colder times are here and winter is right around the corner. The parka fits the bill with a detachable faux fur hood, water repellent outer and padded, quilted inner which will keep you toasty.

The knit from New Look is a contrasting white and black style jumper made from a acrylic-mix and is only £20. A great buy if you’re looking to up your knitwear game for the months ahead and are on a budget looking for something more colourful than a plain jumper.

I still love socks, and Happy Socks have been doing some pretty good designs. one of their latest is their black and white paisley design which I think looks really good, and will add something to any outfit.

Layering is definitely an option when it comes to men’s fashion in Autumn or Winter, and there’s plenty of ways to do it with these next few items. The Cheap Monday T-Shirt is a cool printed white top with a dictionary print. It shows the definition of the words Over My Dead Body, which is över min döda kropp in Swedish, the phrase Cheap Monday uses. House Of Fraser have a 2-pack of Armani tees for only £26. I love these fitted style of tees to use as an under shirt which can be essential to wear under a knit if you don’t want to wear a shirt. The finish off the layering there’s a good deal on this Burton bomber, for only £14 you get this zip-up, which you can layer with a shirt and jacket.

Speaking of jackets, leather is always a good choice when you want to look cool without being cold. Superdry have recently came up with this jacket, the Real Hero Biker jacket. If you want to look casual and have an edge while still looking smart, this is the way to go.

Last up is this knit from Selected Homme. It’s a V-neck knit in 100% fine merino wool in light grey, which is a really good colour which will work with almost everything. At only £55 it’s a good price for 100% merino wool from a good brand.

That is the end of this week’s Fashion Friday. As always you can send me tips on Twitter, I am @Michael84Blog, and you can read last week’s Fashion Friday No.8 here.

Men’s Style Tips – Fashion Friday Edit: No.8

mens-fashion-advice-number-8

Happy Fashion Friday to you all 🙂 The weekend is upon us, so if you’re looking for some men’s fashion advice for what to buy this weekend, or pieces to invest in going forward, you should check out this week’s fashion edit.

Calvin Klein Shirt – £70

Nike Air Max 95 Exclusive At JD Sports – £115

ASOS Bomber Jacket 2 Pack – £34

Ted Baker Swanley Socks – 3 Pack – £22

Zara Suede Jacket – £99

Hugo Boss Colasso Coat – £380

Superdry Jacket – £75

Ralph Lauren Trainers – £95

First up is this dark chambray shirt from Calvin Klein. I just love the colour and the washed out look of it. It’s a slim fit, and this combined with the dark colour will keep you looking sleek.

Next is this pair of trainers which are Nike Air Max 95. I really love Air Max 95, they are old school and super comfortable, you can really feel the difference when you’re walking on a cushion of air which covers the key points of the foot. This colourway is really nice, a combinations of different blues creating a striping effect on the backdrop of the white trainers. These are exclusive to JD Sports, with all the legendary elements which has made the Air Max 95 an all time classic from Nike.

What’s better than having one light bomber in your wardrobe? Having two! You’ve probably seen 2 packs of T-Shirts, and 2 packs of other clothing, but a 2-pack in jackets? It’s not something you see every day. ASOS are doing a 2-pack of a bomber jacket which is constructed in light sweatshirt material which is super soft to touch. They come in a grey and black colour, suitable for wearing in mild temperatures with a tee, or wear with a bigger coat when the temperatures dip a bit lower.

Ted Baker do some really nice socks, and this 3-pack of socks is one of them. You don’t have to buy them as a gift for someone else, get them for yourself. They’re made from organic cotton, and at £22 for a 3 pack, they are a good deal.

The Autumn/Winter season is the prime time for a suede jacket, and Zara have a few which are on trend right now. I’ve picked out this one in navy blue. Bomber length with collar detail, zips on the sleeves and a zip-up opening, you should consider this if you’re looking to get into suede jackets this season.

This week has reminded me that Winter is coming, and so you may be on the look out for a winter coat. This is called the Colasso from Hugo Boss, and it looks like it will stand up to the cold very well. With a zip through opening and chunky buttons to the front, the design is smart and minimal, which means you’ll always be looking smart while staying warm too. It’s £380, but it will always be stylish for many winters to come.

If you’re looking for a jacket which will keep you dry and is lighter and more competitively priced, the Arctic Windcheater from Superdry is a worthy contender. For only £75 you get a whole lot of jacket, it’s waterproof and is fleece lined, with a selection of really colourful interiors to suit your personal style.

Last up are some smart trainers which I would say look more like casual shoes, the Odle from Ralph Lauren. They come in either black or dark tan, which is the colour I have selected here. The uppers are made from Nubuck leather, with a rubber sole and leather lining.

I hope you’ve had a great week, and you’ve enjoyed this week’s Fashion Friday. As always you can send me tips on Twitter at @Michael84Blog, you can check out last week’s Fashion Friday here.

Friday Fashion – Men’s Style Edit No.8

mens-style-blog-fashion-edit-8

It’s the end of the week which means one thing, more men’s fashion advice in the Fashion Friday roundup. We’re getting colder days and longer nights, so keeping warm and layering up is starting to become a priority. Check out this week’s picks:

Converse Baseball Jacket – £120 – here

Cheap Monday T Shirt – £20 – here

Mango Suede Jacket – £120 – here

Barbour Steve McQueen Jacket – £229 – here

Hugo Boss Zip Top – £129 – here

Hugo Boss Knit – £119 – here

Tommy Hilfiger Shirt – £85 – here

Superdry Jumper – £60 – here

First up is this Converse bomber jacket. I love the contrasting body and sleeve colour, and the black works well with the dark grey. It’s light, but there’s enough padding to keep you warm throughout the Autumn.

Just because it’s getting cooler doesn’t mean you can’t add a tee to your wardrobe. This Cheap Monday tee is new and cool, complete with the Cheap Monday wording to the front, layer it with a shirt and jacket for warm Autumn style.

Suede jackets are always big for Autumn, and Mango Man do a few really nice jackets, which are reasonably priced. This one comes in a few colours, I’ve selected it in black. It has two flap pockets on either side of the jacket, with a zip-opening. With quilted panels on the shoulders and a bomber length, it’s a good choice for this season and for years to come.

Barbour wax jackets are iconic, and I love the Steve McQueen jackets. This one is new in at House Of Fraser, and is a timeless classic.

For the milder days and nights this light sweatshirt jacket from Hugo Boss will do the trick. It’s the Zkyler from the BOSS Orange line and is made from soft sweatshirt cotton material, in a light grey colour with mottled effect. It comes complete with kangaroo pouch pockets and is a regular fit.

I love pull-overs when it gets a bit colder, you can smarten up a look with a V-neck knit and a good shirt, so a solid sweater is always a good thing to own. This Hugo Boss sweater fits the bill, it’s available in a large number of colours, I’ve picked the classic black colour. It’s slim fit, and made from fine merino wool, so will feel as good as it looks.

If you want to go for a smart-casual look a patterned shirt will work well, whether you layer it up or wear it with a suede or leather jacket. When it gets colder you can layer it with a sweater or cardigan, dressing it up slightly but keeping a bit of that laid back look. I really like the colours of this Tommy Hilfiger shirt, the ‘Ryan’ regular fit shirt.

Last up is this jumper from Superdry. We all need a cosy, chunky knit, and this one looks to be exactly that. A cable knit jumper, in a classic cream colour, or ‘Porridge’ as the guys over at Superdry are calling it. It’s a crew neck which means you don’t have to worry too much about what you’ve got under it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s Fashion Friday 🙂 As always, you can see last week’s here, and don’t forget to send me your tips on Twitter at @Michael84Blog 🙂

Superdry Orange Label

Featuring:

superdry orange label hoodie and sweat pants

Sometimes you need to just sit back and chill, and the perfect way to do that is to just lounge around in some sweats. We all have one of those days, or at least we should, where will basically do nothing. Sunday Funday is my favourite, just laze around, do nothing for a couple of hours, watch a film or binge on TV shows like The Kardashians or Made In Chelsea.

Autumn is right around the corner, so some warm type of sweats are something we all need. I got a couple of things from Superdry from their Orange Label range, and they certainly fit the bill.

I got this red zip hoodie, and it feels really luxurious and is so soft. The fabric is very thick and rich, with a fleece type of lining which will certainly keep you warm. The zip fastening is all plastic which means you don’t have to worry about the touch of cold metal and is more flexible than a stiff metal fastening. The zip itself is metal and has a premium feel, and goes quite high up to keep you warm at all times. The hood is oversize which I love in a hoodie, with white chunky draw strings which sets it off well. The design is minimal, with a small Superdry logo on the left breast, and small Superdry detailing on one of the sleeves.

The sweat pants are bottle blue in colour and come with cropped leg ends. Like the hoodie the fabric is thick and rich, with a fleece type of lining, chunky drawstrings along with two side pockets and a single pocket on the reverse.

The hoodie costs £54.99 and the sweat pants come in at £49.99, you can buy them both from Superdry from their site here, with a load of other colour options available in both items.

Check out some more pictures below…

Men’s Fashion Guide: Back To School Fashion Tips 2012

It is September, which means it is that time of year again; Summer is over, summer holidays seem like a lifetime ago, and it’s the start of another school year. If you are depressed about starting, or going back, at least you can be happy knowing you look the part, it’s time to put your summer wardrobe to one side, out goes the striped tees and in comes the knits and sweats in preparation for the cooler (or cold depending on where you on) weather. I have created this men’s fashion guide to give you tips on some styles for what to wear for going back to school or college this season.

Decide on what style you like or what you want to go for; You should be comfortable with whatever you are wearing, if you feel good with your style keep it. Don’t wear something you feel uncomfortable with because someone else said it was trendy, if you feel you look like a douche that is not really what you are going for!

I like the preppy look and if that is the look you are going for then you have to stop by places like Tommy Hilfiger which have a lot of great stuff for back to school; Knits, shirts, chinos, jeans and jackets, they have everything you could want. Here are a few things I have picked out.

These knits are nice and very smart, they are stylish without looking like you are trying too hard. I have selected a simple knit (available in a large number of colours), a patterned cardigan and a knit with a logo, to add a bit of versatility. Style these knits with a shirt, or for a more casual style a tee or polo shirt. These particular knits are around £110-£140.

These shirts are also available from Tommy Hilfiger and look very smart but maintaining a bit of a casual look. The first is a striped shirt, the second is a check shirt and third a larger patterned check shirt. Each of these are new for this season and trendy, they come in at around £75-£85 and are available in a variety of colours.

If you just want a chilled relaxed look and go for comfort over style then a hoodie is a good start. A pull over or jacket style are both good choices. The first is a Denim & Supply by Ralph Lauren and has a vintage look and is finished in white. The second is a brighter style with large logo, blue in colour with contrasting orange cords. This is by Danish lifestyle brand Björkvin, both of these are available at Nelly.com. The last is a classic grey zip up hooded top by Superdry. With smaller logo on the breast and plain and simple styling, it is available at ASOS.

The colder weather is coming so you need a jacket which matches your personal style. The first I have picked is a varsity jacket which are still a trend in Autumn 2012. This is an ASOS own brand one and is red with white sleeves. If you like a leather jacket this one by Selected is great for this season, a good length which gives freedom and the simple styling makes it very minimal. If you want a denim look you can pick up this Nudie Jeans jacket which is organic, and made with indigo denim. It has chunky buttons you will find on their jeans, and the quality of finish you can expect from Nudie. These three jackets are available from ASOS.

Three Jackets From Superdry

Featuring:

What do you think of these jackets from Superdry?

The first is a classic leather jacket, with a double collar feature and is fully lined. When I think of leather jackets I usually think of biker jackets, but this one is very smart. £189

The second is more of a sporty style light jacket, and is a polyblend jacket. It is a lined jacket but is also very light, so you can wear this on a cool or warm summers day. £69

The third is a lite patrol jacket, and is a fitted style. It is American style with Japanese design influences, and has the traditional Superdry logo on the breast of the jacket. £80
