Fashion Friday No.13 – Best Menswear This Week

So here we are, back for another Fashion Friday! Autumn is definitely kicking in, the dark nights are coming fast, and it’s definitely getting much, colder! 🙁 Both of these things are bad, but the good part about Autumn is the clothing choices available. Layering is always good, and I can bring out my knits once again for what will most probably be daily wear. For scents to warm things up you can check out the best fragrances for Autumn, but here are my favourite brand new menswear for the week.

I featured the H&M Modern Essentials AW16 on the blog a few weeks ago, and I have selected the stripe wool blend sweatshirt from the collection. My other picks from H&M are the merino wool polo neck jumper in dark grey, along with a blue long sleeve T-shirt. I really love the colour of both of these pieces, the tee brightens up any look, and the grey jumper is a classic piece for any wardrobe for the Autumn.

The Ario knit from Minimum is 100% wool and a really warm chunky type of jumper which looks like it will hold up well in the colder Autumn days and nights to come. I really love the colour for Autumn, it will also transcend into other seasons since the colour is neutral. It’s £100 here. The sonjay bomber jacket is made of polyester so should do well in the rain, and being black will stand up to most things which looking ever stylish. I love the diamond quilted pattern, and it’s yours for £100 here. Last up from Minimum is the tahi shirt, and it’s a good one. 100% Cotton, it’s a check shirt with blue and white checks in a buffalo print style which is something I’ve always loved. The fit looks pretty good, and the white buttons stand out in the design. You can get this for £55 here.

The Seaton shirt is from the Tailored by Solid line and it’s such a great navy blue colour which I’d probably say is almost midnight blue. The contrasting white buttons really stand out which sets off the dark colour. Get it for £50 here. If you’re in need of a cardigan the Dorsk from Tiger of Sweden could be a good option. It’s a zip up rather than the traditional button up, and is made from merino wool. Get it here for £150. Finally another bomber jacket, this one from GANT and is called the Loft. It’s 100% polyester and lightweight but has plenty of insulation to keep you warm. You can get it for £200 here.

From TOPMAN I have picked out this black premium duck down bomber from the LTD collection. It’s warm and could be your next Autumn/Winter coat, with premium features such as real duck down, it’s at a really good price for only £100 here. It is the season for bomber jackets, so here is another from TOPMAN. It comes in black complete with zip up and made from 100% cotton and will work with anything from your wardrobe. Get it for only £25 here. Last up is this sweatshirt, and I love the mint colour for this season. You can pair it with the bomber jacket or another staple colour and it will work. Get it for £35 here.

That’s your lot for this weeks Fashion Friday! As always if you see anything shout me on Twitter at @Michael84Blog and let me know, and you can read more of my men’s style tips over here for ideas on what to pair with these for Autumn.

Fashion Friday Edit: Men’s Style Tips No.4

mens-style-blog-fashion-edit-4

Another Friday rolls around and that means one thing on Michael 84, another Fashion Friday round up. If you’re looking for some men’s style tips, and are wondering what brands and clothing shops have got in store from brand new products to season must haves, I have got you covered! Here’s this week’s top picks. Remember you can always look at last week’s style edit here.

Jack & Jones Leather Jacket – £165 here

Alan Rust Hoodie – £50 here

M&S Autograph Scarf – £20 here

Solid Shirt – £40 here

Boss Green T-Shirt In Red – £45 here

Cheap Monday Jeans – £55 here

GANT Knit – £120 here

Hugo Boss Socks – 2 Pack – £16 – here

First up is a leather jacket from Jack & Jones, available at Nelly. I have had my eye on this for a while. It’s a genuine leather jacket which is always what you should go for, authentic is the way to go, and buying faux-leather should be left alone, especially at this price of only £165! I love the colour, dark purple. The staple colours of leather jackets are black, brown and lighter shades of brown such as camel, but this purple one is contemporary and quite toned down. Because it’s not black and not too light, it’s going to work with a lot of different colour options, and is going to set you apart from the crowd.

A short sleeve hoodie? I am not quite sure what to make of these, in fact I was not a fan at all. However this Alan Rust all white number has got me second thinking. With the cooler autumn months we need to wrap up a bit, and I do like this clean cut bright white sweat.

A scarf is a great addition to any outfit, and every man should own at least one, preferably a few for different occasions. This one is a Merino wool scarf from the Autograph collection at M&S, and is really good quality at a great price point.

Check shirts will never die, they just wont. The great thing about these is that there’s a pretty much unlimited amount of styles and colour combinations out there. This one from Solid caught my eye, I really like the pattern. The blue, red and white really do work well, and it’s something which will be able to be layered well, and comes complete with a button down collar.

Another item which is good for layering is this T-Shirt from BOSS Green. It’s still warm enough to wear a tee, and you can choose this one to brighten up a dark jacket or cardigan. The red is really rich, and will make any outfit pop.

A trend which looks set to carry over into at least the first half of Autumn is the ripped jeans trend. Cheap Monday have a pair of black skinny fits which fit the trend well, with rips on the knees.

Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year because of knits, and this cable knit from GANT really defines why I love the season. It just looks really warm, and it is. This is off white, a perfect bright colour which can be layered with a shirt or worn with a jacket to create a cool Autumnal look.

You can never really have enough socks, and if yours are looking a bit tired or dated then this 2-pack from Hugo Boss would be a good choice. There’s various colours available, I have personally selected blue, I think they’re a more fashionable colour these days than the classic black, and you probably have lots of pairs of black socks.

I hope you have enjoyed this weeks Fashion Friday. Selected Homme Leather Jacket & MTV Logo Tee

Featuring: ,

selected-homme-leather-jacket-3

A few weeks ago I got one of the bargains of the sales, This Selected Homme Leather jacket. It’s a biker style, and is a really nice, light weight leather jacket. I have been getting into leather jackets more and more in the past few years, they are a real investment piece and although most of the time they cost a lot of money, they are usually worth it. I can see myself getting another really nice leather jacket, I think they are cool and are just timeless, but for the time being I will stick with this one, another FCUK which I have, and my two suede jackets from Mango and JOFAMA.

Anyway; Why is this jacket so special? The price! It was in the sale and since it’s genuine leather and a brand name, Selected Homme, you’re probably thinking a few hundred. I believe the retail was around £300, so maybe half price? That would be a good deal right? Well this cost me a little under £90!

It’s a black biker style so is not something which will go out of fashion any time in a hurry, which makes it a really good purchase.

I am a 90’s MTV lover, and have been getting a couple of logo T-Shirts like my 90’s Calvin Klein T-Shirt which I love. I am reprising my 90’s style, so this MTV logo shirt with the summer setting will look great in a few months time when the weather picks up. It’s from the brand !Solid which I really like, I have a pair of jeans and denim jacket from them, the quality is always good.

Fashion Trends – Checks, Plaid, Flannel, Prints And Buffalo Checks

editboard-michael84-1-december-2013

A really big fashion trend at the moment is check and plaid patterns and prints, but most of all Buffalo prints. I got myself a t-shirt which I really love in this style which is really taking over. Have you wondered what this is called when searching for some clothing or accessories? It’s called Buffalo Check.

Most commonly seen in red and black, but you can get it in a variation of other colours such as yellow/black or blue/black. The original use was for heavy types of fabrics for use in fashion such as lumberjack shirts and jackets, but it’s now come into it’s own, and being used a lot in both men’s and women’s fashion. There’s a huge variation of clothing and accessories which are available now, here are a couple of my favourites which I have found.

ASOS T Shirt and shirt, they also have a wide range of other fashion in Buffalo including a bomber jacket, polo top and even a backpack. Topman have a few items including this really nice printed scarf, a must have if Buffalo clothing is not your style but you like the pattern enough to incorporate it within your usual outfits. King of shirts Ralph Lauren do their check shirt, as do !Solid, H&M and Zara.

17th November – This Week’s Men’s Fashion Tips From ASOS Michael84 Edit

Featuring: ,

editboard-asos-16-november-2013

What’s new at ASOS or what am I feeling at the moment…

I have been on an absolute hunt for a real leather, quilted jacket. I have literally searched high and low for the exact style I wanted, and come up with not very much. ASOS have this in from Selected for £175. A real leather quilted jacket in a bomber fit. Their own label also do a rich wool blend quilted bomber, it looks pretty good in dark grey and a bargain at only £55. To round off the quilted bombers I found that my one of my favourite Danish lifestyle brands, !Solid had brought out a range in yellow, red and blue, priced at £55.

I still love dip dye, and ever since I got my first Gant dip dye knit last winter I have been in love with this style. ASOS do their own denim dip dye shirt, in a denim style. I really love the exposed stitching detail, it gives an added dimension to the shirt. I have noticed that there is a resurgence in flannel and checks in women’s fashion, especially with reds, and this will cross over into men’s fashion because it works so well. This checked shirt has contrasting panels, perfect to look that little bit different from the crowd of regular check shirt wearers. Going back to the dip dye is this sweatshirt from Son Of Wild, the red and white colours work well and it’s a relaxed fit so perfect for those cold chilly nights. To round this up I have found a 2-pack of bright ASOS t-shirts for layering and adding colour to an otherwise boring outfit, only a tenner for 2, you can’t complain.

ASOS Summer ’13 Sale – Shorts: Michael 84 Edit

asos-sale-june2013-shorts

Summer is here, which means a couple of things, first off it’s supposed to be hot, and second, there are lots of sales on at the moment in the world of fashion. If you are looking for some clothing to keep you cool this summer, now is the time to shop around.

It may not be boiling hot in the UK yet but it is warm and muggy, and it’s time to wear shorts, if not out definately while chilling. If you are going on your holidays to somewhere you’d wear shorts on a daily basis, I have selected a few pair from the ASOS sale, as you can see above.

I think that denim or chino style shorts are a much more grown up, fashionable style to wear, more so than swim shorts or casual sports shorts. I think a few pairs of “good” shorts are worth investing in, even if you are not a big fan of wearing shorts.

  • French Connection Stone colour shorts – £50 £22
  • Humor Red shorts – £50 £30
  • Cheap Monday – £49 £29
  • !Solid Blue Shorts – £50 £29
  • Minimum Green Shorts – £50 £35
  • Esprit Dip Dye Shorts – £45 £31

Check out these and all the other shorts in the ASOS sale here.
