Men’s Fashion Tips – Winter Coat & Jacket Buying Guide

Canada Goose Jackets For Winter

Brrr it’s getting cold in ‘ere! Winter is here, or coming, depending on where in the world you live and when you’re reading this post ūüėČ One way or another you’ll be experiencing the depths of winter sometime soon, so you’ll need a winter coat or jacket to get you through a few horrible months of the miserable British winter weather.

Buying a good winter coat is not only important for the first year you purchase it, but it can become a good investment piece, lasting a good few winters before you need to splash out and buy another. With that said, investing in a good jacket is not only worth it because you’ll be getting¬†much better quality which will be noticeable when you wear it, as well as it lasting longer than a cheap and cheerful coat.

Fashion Friday No.12 – Best Menswear Of The Week

It’s back! Fashion Friday has returned to Michael 84 to bring you the best menswear and clothing for guys of the week. Let me take the hassle of shopping around and showcase a small selection of what’s caught my eye over the past week.

The Calvin Klein Re-issued clothing is still on trend, and CK know it, and have released even more reincarnations of their favourite 90’s classic pieces of clothing. You can get this Calvin Klein Jeans Sweatshirt which comes in a couple of colourways, my favourite being this tonal dark blue colour which CK are calling night sky. Get it¬†here¬†at Calvin Klein for ¬£80.

In keeping with the 90’s trend, there’s this Kappa Track Jacket. It’s a new design, but keeps the nostalgic taping and piping down the arms and classic Kappa logo to the front. The blue and¬†white half colour works well,¬†you can get it for¬†¬£60¬†here

First up for the knitwear and jumpers is this one from¬†DR Denim. The Noah Neppy Knit comes¬†in an 80% lambswool mix in a marled style, and will¬†be a good addition to you wardrobe¬†game. It’s yours for¬†¬£65 – here

Light coloured knits are great, I really like them, and this one from TOPMAN is no exception. It’s an Ecru Textured Sweatshirt and is a good start if you’re looking to¬†increase or start a new wardrobe for Autumn, a very reasonable¬†¬£22¬†here

As you’ll probably know if you’ve read the blog over the Summer, nautical stripes are on trend, and I love them. Just because the Summer is over doesn’t mean the trend has to be, and you can get this TOPMAN Striped Jumper if you want to take the trend into Autumn. For¬†¬£30¬†it’s a good way to keep the style going.¬†Get it¬†here

If you are in need of a pair of jeans for this season, you can have a look at the LEVIS 511 Black Slim Jeans. It’s my favourite¬†fit, and as you’ll know from reading my¬†5 pairs of denim guide, you’ll want at least one pair of black denim in your armoury. Get a pair of classic Levis for¬†¬£80¬†here

Autumn and Winter are about layering, and you can do this with a good, solid knit. This cotton cashmere knit from Tommy Hilfiger is something you should seriously consider. Grey is a timeless colour, the V-neck style means you can wear it with a shirt to have that all important smart casual look. Get it for £80 here

If you want to add more dimension to your knitwear, the GANT Donegal Stripe Jumper could be a good way to do it. It’s a neutral colour, but the sand colour could be one you don’t already own, with the stripes it will add some individuality to your look. You can buy it for¬†¬£95 – here

If you want an alternative to dark jeans, these GANT Chinos could be it. Khaki in colour,¬†you can style them up with most colours which will keep your¬†outfit looking smart. They’re ¬£85¬† here

The Adidas NMD-R1 are some of the most talked about trainers in menswear at the moment. If you want to join the trend you can do so with these all black trainers, which will be available in a week for £110 here

If you prefer to have smarter footwear, Paul Smith has you covered with these Bordeaux Christo Brogues. Crafted in Italy from Parma calf leather, they are not only a stylish piece, but also an investment in high quality footwear. Get yourself a pair for £285  here

That’s it for Fashion Friday this week! Remember to check out the men’s fashion advice section for men’s style tips, and¬†as always, if you spot something worth a mention, shout me on Twitter at @Michael84Blog and let me know ūüôā

Back To School Fashion Tips & Trends For 2013 – Jeans

It’s another back to school fashion guide! It’s September so that means one thing, back to school, college or uni for those who are getting an education. Get the first day of term right with the perfect outfit. This post is dedicated to jeans, a good pair of jeans goes a long way. Buying a nice, comfortable, stylish and sturdy pair can last you quite a while, and getting something contemporary will¬†ensure that they are timeless.

  • Acne Jeans – ¬£130
  • DR Denim Jeans – ¬£80
  • Dolce & Gabbana Jeans – ¬£230

  • Nudie Jeans – ¬£159
  • J.Lindeberg – ¬£119
  • Tiger Of Sweden – ¬£159

  • He By Mango – ¬£69
  • PRPS – ¬£229
  • Nudie Jeans – ¬£149

  • Tommy Hilfiger – ¬£100
  • Ted Baker – ¬£85
  • Paul Smith – ¬£119

When it comes to denim, paying a little bit extra does go a long way. Jeans are always in style, they are a very versatile part of any wardrobe and buying a good pair will last a long time. When paying a lot of money for jeans you should look at it as an investment; A high end fashion label t-shirt will be cool for a while, but not forever.

I believe everyone should own at least one pair of good denim, whether it be to wear on that special occasion, make a formal look more casual or just a piece to add to your wardrobe. You can be fairly confident that buying a simple but stylish pair of jeans will stand the test of time, look good but most importantly feel great.

Fit – My personal favourite fit of jeans are slim or regular fit. They don’t have to be drainpipe skinny style to be fitted, there is a preference in fashion at the moment for this type of style. Leave the flares and the like back in the past.

Wash – I do love darker washes of jeans. They are a smarter cleaner looking style without being too formal, and look good around the house, in town, down the pub or in a club. To add a bit of character and dimension I like the faded and light distressed looks, I would stay clear of acid wash and rough distressed styles to maintain versatility.

Paul Smith Luggage

I saw the new Paul Smith luggage and think it looks pretty cool. It is the Steamer collection from Paul Smith and it is new for this season.

I would not mind walking through the airport waiting for this luggage…

Nice, crisp clean and slightly futuristic looking luggage. The thing I most hate about baggage claim when you are in the airport is looking at the bags on the belt, and thinking, “Was that my bag that just went past…” Well I don’t think you would have the same problem with these stylish cases.

The biggest problem is the problem we all face when travelling in 2011, the weight. You are typically allowed 20KGs, but these large cases weigh almost 6KG without anything in! So you will look stylish with your nice fashionable case, but you will have to leave some of your fashion clothes at home, you will only be able to take 14KGs of clothing; And of course the other things which need to go in your case these days because of security.

The cases don’t come cheap either; They are ¬£450, ¬£435 and ¬£375 for Large, Medium and Small respectively.

Still, they do look rather good ūüėČ

Paul Smith Quilted Parka Jacket

I know the winter is not actually here, but the weather is miserable, its not really warm and its raining all the time. Its the worse August I can remember, we haven’t really had much of summer weather in the actual summer. With all that said I started looking at jackets ūüėÄ I have my Canada Goose for the winter, so I will probably be wearing that and don’t need a new one, but if I did, I have found one I really like.

I was browsing around and found this from Paul Smith.

How warm does that look!! ūüėõ It is¬†a goose down filled like a Canada Goose, with a faux fur trimmed hood, toggle straps, loads of pockets, adjustable fishtail with buttons, it has it all. A perfect jacket if you are looking for¬†a winter coat right now. Maybe it is a bit too early to be looking, but when you do you should take a look at this, if its still available. Priced at ¬£295 – ¬£305 from End Clothing, ASOS and Paul Smith direct.

I have never really been the biggest fan of Paul Smith stuff, but I really do like this a lot ūüôā

Get it here for ¬£295 ūüôā

Mens Summer Fashion 2011 – White Jeans

The Summer season is here, so its time to get our your summer wardrobe, or add to it. What do you think of white jeans for men? They are seen and sold in women’s fashion, but in men’s they are not as popular.

The good thing about white jeans is that they can look very fashionable and can either look uber sleek and smart if all in white, or can be really set off by wearing some nice footwear and a belt. They are also a lighter warmer colour for the summer, and do add a bit more sophistication to your look.

If you want to break from the crowd in the mid-blue denim wash that many wear, then white jeans must be considered.

Here are 3 pair which I have found and like.

  1. Armani Jeans, Strech Slim cut £155 from House Of Fraser [here]
  2. Hugo Boss Slim Jeans £119 from Selfridges [here]
  3. Paul Smith Selvedge Slim fit £199 from Selfridges [here]

They can be styled with a big variety of footwear, aswell as belts, and will look great with the right shirt or t-shirt.

If you are ready to add some colour and variation to your summer wardrobe then I would recommend getting a pair of white jeans ūüôā

Man Bags Going Mainstream In 2011

Messenger bags, shoulder bags, dispatch bags, satchels…When these are in a mans possession they are commonly called the Man Bag. In the past these have been seen as a very feminine item, only bought by a certain type of people, including male fashionistas. Now, however, times are changing. It is now acceptable to carry a man bag, many men are now buying them, and the high street and high-end fashion labels have recognised the trend, by offering a wider selection of bags for men.

Why are they now more acceptable? The answer is the modern man now likes to carry more things, aswell as being fashionable. We can now do that. What might the modern man carry?

One of the biggest reasons why men are now using fashionable bags is because of technology. Tablet devices such as the iPad are fashionable, you need something to carry it in. The rise of laptops and netbooks also has a part to play. The young professional male who takes his iPad to work doesnt want to carry it in a cheap plastic bag, he needs something more durable and stylish, and have enough room for other things. The man bag enables us to carry around things which we wouldnt normally because we couldnt, e.g. a Laptop or iPad.

Now we see why girls like bags so much. They arent just practical, in the hands of a man they are the Swiss Army Knift of accessories.

Here are some of what is on offer, these are my picks of what the fashionable male can carry around.

Here are my picks of man bags. A selection from Diesel, Paul Smith, Ted Baker, Dolce And Gabbana and if you want to spend a small fortune, Louis Vuitton.
