Fashion Friday No.12 – Best Menswear Of The Week

It’s back! Fashion Friday has returned to Michael 84 to bring you the best menswear and clothing for guys of the week. Let me take the hassle of shopping around and showcase a small selection of what’s caught my eye over the past week.

The Calvin Klein Re-issued clothing is still on trend, and CK know it, and have released even more reincarnations of their favourite 90’s classic pieces of clothing. You can get this Calvin Klein Jeans Sweatshirt which comes in a couple of colourways, my favourite being this tonal dark blue colour which CK are calling night sky. Get it here at Calvin Klein for £80.

In keeping with the 90’s trend, there’s this Kappa Track Jacket. It’s a new design, but keeps the nostalgic taping and piping down the arms and classic Kappa logo to the front. The blue and white half colour works well, you can get it for £60 here

First up for the knitwear and jumpers is this one from DR Denim. The Noah Neppy Knit comes in an 80% lambswool mix in a marled style, and will be a good addition to you wardrobe game. It’s yours for £65 – here

Light coloured knits are great, I really like them, and this one from TOPMAN is no exception. It’s an Ecru Textured Sweatshirt and is a good start if you’re looking to increase or start a new wardrobe for Autumn, a very reasonable £22 here

As you’ll probably know if you’ve read the blog over the Summer, nautical stripes are on trend, and I love them. Just because the Summer is over doesn’t mean the trend has to be, and you can get this TOPMAN Striped Jumper if you want to take the trend into Autumn. For £30 it’s a good way to keep the style going. Get it here

If you are in need of a pair of jeans for this season, you can have a look at the LEVIS 511 Black Slim Jeans. It’s my favourite fit, and as you’ll know from reading my 5 pairs of denim guide, you’ll want at least one pair of black denim in your armoury. Get a pair of classic Levis for £80 here

Autumn and Winter are about layering, and you can do this with a good, solid knit. This cotton cashmere knit from Tommy Hilfiger is something you should seriously consider. Grey is a timeless colour, the V-neck style means you can wear it with a shirt to have that all important smart casual look. Get it for £80 here

If you want to add more dimension to your knitwear, the GANT Donegal Stripe Jumper could be a good way to do it. It’s a neutral colour, but the sand colour could be one you don’t already own, with the stripes it will add some individuality to your look. You can buy it for £95 – here

If you want an alternative to dark jeans, these GANT Chinos could be it. Khaki in colour, you can style them up with most colours which will keep your outfit looking smart. They’re £85  here

The Adidas NMD-R1 are some of the most talked about trainers in menswear at the moment. If you want to join the trend you can do so with these all black trainers, which will be available in a week for £110 here

If you prefer to have smarter footwear, Paul Smith has you covered with these Bordeaux Christo Brogues. Crafted in Italy from Parma calf leather, they are not only a stylish piece, but also an investment in high quality footwear. Get yourself a pair for £285  here

That’s it for Fashion Friday this week! Remember to check out the men’s fashion advice section for men’s style tips, and as always, if you spot something worth a mention, shout me on Twitter at @Michael84Blog and let me know 🙂

Back To School Fashion Tips & Trends For 2013 – Jeans

It’s another back to school fashion guide! It’s September so that means one thing, back to school, college or uni for those who are getting an education. Get the first day of term right with the perfect outfit. This post is dedicated to jeans, a good pair of jeans goes a long way. Buying a nice, comfortable, stylish and sturdy pair can last you quite a while, and getting something contemporary will ensure that they are timeless.

  • Acne Jeans – £130
  • DR Denim Jeans – £80
  • Dolce & Gabbana Jeans – £230

  • Nudie Jeans – £159
  • J.Lindeberg – £119
  • Tiger Of Sweden – £159

  • He By Mango – £69
  • PRPS – £229
  • Nudie Jeans – £149

  • Tommy Hilfiger – £100
  • Ted Baker – £85
  • Paul Smith – £119

When it comes to denim, paying a little bit extra does go a long way. Jeans are always in style, they are a very versatile part of any wardrobe and buying a good pair will last a long time. When paying a lot of money for jeans you should look at it as an investment; A high end fashion label t-shirt will be cool for a while, but not forever.

I believe everyone should own at least one pair of good denim, whether it be to wear on that special occasion, make a formal look more casual or just a piece to add to your wardrobe. You can be fairly confident that buying a simple but stylish pair of jeans will stand the test of time, look good but most importantly feel great.

Fit – My personal favourite fit of jeans are slim or regular fit. They don’t have to be drainpipe skinny style to be fitted, there is a preference in fashion at the moment for this type of style. Leave the flares and the like back in the past.

Wash – I do love darker washes of jeans. They are a smarter cleaner looking style without being too formal, and look good around the house, in town, down the pub or in a club. To add a bit of character and dimension I like the faded and light distressed looks, I would stay clear of acid wash and rough distressed styles to maintain versatility.

Coloured Denim Ready For Spring/Summer 2013

For this spring and summer I decided to take the plunge and go for something a bit different, I am finally going to go into the trend that is coloured denim.

I had bought a few pair of coloured chinos before, but I did not really like them, the look and the bright colour did not seem to be for me. So, for the Spring and Summer this year, I have decided to go all out and buy various different colours of denim, for a more summer and contemporary look.

I love my regular blue denim, but when I look at my wardrobe it’s almost all the same indigo colour…Which I love, but I want something different.

The key with coloured denim or any trousers is matching it up with the correct colour top and/or jacket, this can make it seem more in tone and blend in, so green jeans will not look as outrageous as you may think if you tone it down with a simple white or black t-shirt and black belt.

I got a blue, brown and yellow pair of Cheap Monday, a green pair of DR Denim and a red pair of River Island.

Out of them all I think I actually like the brown colour the best. They look quite bright in the pictures, especially the blue and red, but they are quite toned down and pastel shades of colours; Not so bright that you need sunglasses to look at them
