Budget University Style & Cheap Fashion Essentials For Guys 2016

Inspiration And Ideas For University Style For Guys

Going to University can be expensive, but fortunately your style does not have to be. You can get some really great basic and staple pieces ready to wear at university, even if you’re on a budget. Here I’ll go through some basic fashion essentials which you should be buying and wearing at uni or college.

University/College Student Budget Preparing – Only Buy What You Need

It’s really easy to go shopping for clothing and getting home having spent hundreds on pretty much the same style of types of items. You don’t need 5 pairs of the same jeans in the same wash, especially when you’re on a budget. You need to create a streamline wardrobe, a capsule wardrobe, with a variety of key pieces, rather than a lot of the same fashion.

Friday Fashion – Men’s Style Edit No.8

mens-style-blog-fashion-edit-8

It’s the end of the week which means one thing, more men’s fashion advice in the Fashion Friday roundup. We’re getting colder days and longer nights, so keeping warm and layering up is starting to become a priority. Check out this week’s picks:

Converse Baseball Jacket – £120 – here

Cheap Monday T Shirt – £20 – here

Mango Suede Jacket – £120 – here

Barbour Steve McQueen Jacket – £229 – here

Hugo Boss Zip Top – £129 – here

Hugo Boss Knit – £119 – here

Tommy Hilfiger Shirt – £85 – here

Superdry Jumper – £60 – here

First up is this Converse bomber jacket. I love the contrasting body and sleeve colour, and the black works well with the dark grey. It’s light, but there’s enough padding to keep you warm throughout the Autumn.

Just because it’s getting cooler doesn’t mean you can’t add a tee to your wardrobe. This Cheap Monday tee is new and cool, complete with the Cheap Monday wording to the front, layer it with a shirt and jacket for warm Autumn style.

Suede jackets are always big for Autumn, and Mango Man do a few really nice jackets, which are reasonably priced. This one comes in a few colours, I’ve selected it in black. It has two flap pockets on either side of the jacket, with a zip-opening. With quilted panels on the shoulders and a bomber length, it’s a good choice for this season and for years to come.

Barbour wax jackets are iconic, and I love the Steve McQueen jackets. This one is new in at House Of Fraser, and is a timeless classic.

For the milder days and nights this light sweatshirt jacket from Hugo Boss will do the trick. It’s the Zkyler from the BOSS Orange line and is made from soft sweatshirt cotton material, in a light grey colour with mottled effect. It comes complete with kangaroo pouch pockets and is a regular fit.

I love pull-overs when it gets a bit colder, you can smarten up a look with a V-neck knit and a good shirt, so a solid sweater is always a good thing to own. This Hugo Boss sweater fits the bill, it’s available in a large number of colours, I’ve picked the classic black colour. It’s slim fit, and made from fine merino wool, so will feel as good as it looks.

If you want to go for a smart-casual look a patterned shirt will work well, whether you layer it up or wear it with a suede or leather jacket. When it gets colder you can layer it with a sweater or cardigan, dressing it up slightly but keeping a bit of that laid back look. I really like the colours of this Tommy Hilfiger shirt, the ‘Ryan’ regular fit shirt.

Last up is this jumper from Superdry. We all need a cosy, chunky knit, and this one looks to be exactly that. A cable knit jumper, in a classic cream colour, or ‘Porridge’ as the guys over at Superdry are calling it. It’s a crew neck which means you don’t have to worry too much about what you’ve got under it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s Fashion Friday 🙂 As always, you can see last week’s here, and don’t forget to send me your tips on Twitter at @Michael84Blog 🙂

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II Volt

Featuring:

converse-chuck-taylor-ii-volt-2

Earlier this year Converse introduced us to the brand new Chuck Taylor All Star, the All Star II. It came in 4 staple colours of red, white, blue and black. They’ve now released a new colourway for the Autumn which will certainly brighten up any look. The Chuck Taylor All Star II Volt comes after a whole host of other fashion has been donned in this neon, fluorescent type of colour, and it really does look as electric as volt sounds.

The trainers are completed with the volt colour in the laces as well as the eyelets, with the base being bright white as you’d come to expect in a traditional All Star silhouette. They have just been released, and are available now for £60.

Fashion Friday – Michael 84 Style Edit – Number 1

mens-friday-fashion-tips-1

A new feature on Michael 84 is Fashion Friday Favourites, or as I may call it, the Michael 84 Friday Fashion Edit. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and is my favourite pieces of fashion from my favourite places on and offline. There’s so much in men’s fashion at the moment and it’s going from strength to strength, but sometimes we just don’t have the time to have a good look around at places to get that key piece we’re looking for. Here I will showcase some clothing or fashion products which I am really liking at the moment. It will mostly be new fashion, so if you’re ever in doubt of what’s hot at the moment, you’ll find out right here every Friday 🙂

This week I am kicking it off with these pieces.

H&M Wool Jacket – I really love this H&M blazer, it’s a dark navy blue colour and is marled so has a bit of texture to the colour. It’s from their premium range and is made from 100% wool, so is worth the money. It’s £80

H&M Fine Knit Jumper – I just love the nautical theme at the moment, it’s on trend and something I really love. This fine knit jumper is only £15 and is the classic navy with fine white stripes. Get it

ASOS Stripe T Shirt – Continuing the nautical theme I have selected this t-shirt, this time with the colours reversed. White is the base and it has navy stripes and a ringer collar.

Converse Chuck II – The trainers of the moment are the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II. A reworking of the original I have picked out the all white colour for the summer.

H&M Cotton Shirt – Summer is still here and I love a check shirt, wear it with the sleeves rolled-up and open with a tee for a summer look. You can pick this up from H&M for only £15

Nudie Jeans Selvedge – Premium denim which will last a long time, buying a pair of Nudie Jeans is an investment. I really like black denim ready for autumn, or brighten up the look with some light top/jacket combination. These are the coveted Selvedge denim so you can create a premium laid back look, and all for a reasonable £155. They’re slim fit.

ASOS Grey Blazer – To keep an outfit light for the summer a light coloured jacket will do this while also keeping you smart, and I really like this grey one from ASOS. At £65 it’s a fair price, it comes in a woll mix and tweed texture to give it a bit of dimension.

ASOS White Ripped Skinny Jeans – My favourite for the summer and a trend which has taken off quite a bit this year is white denim or bottoms. It’s been given a bit of an edge, with the ripped jeans trend really taking over. You can get some ripped, slim fitting jeans from ASOS for only £35, a good price for something you’re going to wear a handful of times over the summer.

That’s your lot for this week’s Friday fashion tips. Let me know if you’ve seen anything else which deserves a mention 🙂 As usual, you’ll find all my men’s fashion advice right here, if you’re looking for some style I recommend checking it out 🙂

Introducing The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II

Featuring:

converse-chuck-taylor-all-star-ii-4

One of the most iconic, legendary trainers of all time has got a brand new rework. The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is an icon, known the world over, a new updated model has been unveiled and is on the way, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II.

As you can see from it’s looks the fundamentals are the same; With hi top and low versions available, it will first come in four favourite colours; All white, black, red and blue. The classic silhouette comes with some new technology and comfort, with Nike Lunarlon sockliner for superior full foot cushioning and arch support, and Foam padded collar and non-slip gusseted tongue for 360-degree comfort.

Since I own about 10 pair of the original design there’s always one complaint I have had with them; The comfort. I find you cannot wear them for long periods of time, and are not great for doing a lot of walking around, for example walking around a city. The new All Star II will feature the tech above, as well as a perforated micro suede liner, for breathability during extended periods of wear which sounds like a dream.

These are due to be released on 28th July and are part of the Converse Autumn 2015 collection, with a RRP Price of £55 for the ox (low) and £60 for the high tops.

All white trainers are something to have in the summer, so these could make a perfect addition to a summer wardrobe.

Men’s Summer Fashion Tips – Sweat Shorts

mens-sweat-shorts-1

Sweatpants have been thought of for a long time as a bit scruffy, super casual and even related to chav culture, but all of that changed a couple of years ago. We saw a resurgence in sport luxe fashion, with higher end menswear brands showcasing their take on the trends, with casual tops and bottoms including more fashionable, better cut sweat pants and joggers. From that comes the summer trend of sweat shorts, and it’s something I really like and have embraced.

You may remember I got a few pair of sweat shorts from H&M a short while ago, and I really like them. At only £8 a pair you can’t go wrong, and they are good quality with a really nice fit. The summer season is here, and other fashion labels and brands have an array of sweat shorts ready for you to buy, in a range of colours and styles.

Sweat Shorts – The Fit

The fit is always important, and with this type of shorts you’re only likely to find 2 leg lengths; regular and long. Shorter lengths are usually reserved for chino, denim or more commonly swim shorts. A good rule of thumb is that the length should never go past the knee, anything else and they are getting a bit too long. Since these are sweat shorts they will almost certainly come with an elasticated waistband, so you can cheat a little on the waist size if you’re an odd shape and need to compensate for leg length.

The most versatile style of shorts?

I love chino shorts, they are super smart and when you want to wear something cooler in the summer or on holiday but want to keep it looking stylish, chino shorts are the way to go. However they’re never going to have the comfort of the relaxed fitting sweat short. That makes sweat shorts really versatile; Wearing them out and about in the city in the middle of the summer, relaxing by the pool or at the beach, and chilling out at home on a summer’s evening.

How to style sweat shorts

Sweat shorts will always be seen as a casual piece of clothing. That doesn’t mean they can’t be stylish. There’s a lot of different styles out there, from plain to patterned in a vast array of colours which you can dress up with different items of clothing. Wear them with a plain white tee for a classic look, or go for a smart casual look with a pain tee with a buttoned down shirt. Make sure you co-ordinate the colours so they go well together, wearing contrasting bottoms and top can look great.

Verdict

Sweat shorts are never going to be a formal statement of a refined gentlemen, but they aren’t supposed to be. They are, however, a great piece of clothing to have in your armoury for the summer, when you want to kick back and relax or have a more casual look. If you’re going casual, then do it right 😉

Friday 10th July 2015 – Enjoying The Sun

me-10-july-2015-3

Happy Friday!

Today the weather has been great once again, and I decided to take advantage of it and take a couple pics of some of my new clothing. I usually take pictures either outside my house or inside which is really convenient, but it’s not the most picaresque, and quite repetitive for you all to see; I’ll try for better/more locations 😉 This is my Mango jacket which I love, and featured before. It’s a summer linen jacket, and is super thin and really light, so is perfect for the summer heat; You get the benefits of the style and don’t feel uncomfortably hot when wearing it (of course when it gets too hot it’s too hot, it’s too hot for anything! 😛 ). I also wore a brand new Jaeger shirt, in fact it’s so new I have not even had a chance to feature it on the blog yet! I should be featuring it next week 😉 My trainers are grey Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars, sunglasses obviously Ray Ban, and Jeans are from Nudie Jeans.

I also went out on a run…I have started going out for jogs or runs on an evening; Usually I have to go out during the day otherwise it gets dark/cold, but when it’s summer we get so much light and it’s really warm…especially tonight, it was rather hot! The downside of running in the summer is the amount of little flies there are…Does anyone have tips to combat them flying at your face, in your mouth or nose?! 🙁 It’s horrible!

Have a great weekend 🙂

Converse Putting Their Foot Down

Featuring:

converse-collection-march-2014

Converse are finally putting their foot down. They have said enough is enough, and have started to sue companies which they believe are copying their iconic Chuck Taylor shoe design. I love my Converse, and always buy the genuine article. I don’t understand why you’d buy a cheaper imitation, or why you’d buy something which looks like a Converse, when you can buy a Converse! 😀 They are not so expensive when  you compare them to a pair of Air Max for example, I have picked up a pair of Converse for under £30, which I think is quite reasonable.

I have however slightly fallen out of love with them over the past year or so. They are not a comfortable piece of footwear if you plan on doing a lot of walking, or even standing around, and I have to admit I do prefer my Air Max. Converse are good if you want to wear something for a casual or smart-casual occasion, and because of all the colours which are available you can really create your own style.

My Converse Colours – The Last Of The Collection?

Featuring:

My Converse Collection 2014

I love Converse, and have done for 3 or 4 years. The infamous Chuck Taylors are my favourites, I love the fact you can get them in so many colours, and they really set off an outfit. You can make a usually boring looking outfit and add a dash of colour with some of these, and with a massive colour range available there are endless possibilities. Converse are universally cool, and have been for longer than I have been alive, so they’re a pretty timeless trainer to wear. They are also casual but can be even seen as slightly smart, in comparison to wearing some sports trainers.

In my collection I have the black hi tops, then comes green, purple, electric blue, The Simpsons “Homer” version, the red, black, grey and teal shoes. As you can see by the white fronts, they all get worn 😛

But they are not for every occasion. I would not recommend them for walking for example, I have been on city trips and walking around all day and I have to admit they are not the best things on your feet if you’re walking around all day. I still love my Converse and all the colours I have bought over the past few years, but I think I have enough now, and will mix things up a little with different brands or styles.

Back in the days of being a teen it was all about Nike Air Max, they dipped a little in terms of being fashionable, but over the past 5 or 6 years they are back, with classics like the Air Max 1 and Air Max 90. The only pair I have currently I use for running, and they’re in a state! I think I will have to get back into the Air Max game because they were so cool, and are once again with a huge number of styles and colours.
