Sunglasses Guide 2012

Posted by Michael on Thursday 29th March, 2012

Since we have had amazing sun and summer is coming, I thought I would write my little sunglasses guide for 2012. There are a few different things to think about when getting sunglasses, which are: style, shape, size, and brand. Sunglasses can be a good investment, even in the UK where we get hardly any sun ;) You can have a good pair for years, if you pick the right pair.

Stick with the classics

If you are not sure what to buy then my advice is to stick to the classics, and I have probably the only two pair that you actually need to own; A pair of aviators and a pair of wayfarers. Both of these styles are timeless and have been around forever. My brand of choice for both of these is the timeless brand, Ray Ban. They are really cool, and they are the brand of sunglasses to own. You can pick up a pair of each of these for around £100, in an array of styles, colours and sizes. You cannot go wrong with these and once you get a pair, it will be the only brand you want to own!

Aviators or Wayfarers?

Well Aviators are called so for obvious reasons, they were used by pilots which is where the name comes from. Today they are worn by many, you can get a large number of different styles, colours and sizes, different lenses, many different combinations. Usually very thin frames with rounded oval style lenses.

Wayfarers are more famous for the rock and roll lifestyle, rockstars and the like. Famously worn by The Blues Brothers in the movie of the same name, these have been around for such a long time and will never go out of fashion. Usually Plastic framed in a sort of squared oval kind of shape.

Other shapes and styles

There are other shapes and styles of course. Round, square, rectangular, rimless wrap around and more.

Which size is best for me?

This is the hardest question to answer. The best bet is to go and try some on. If you buy some sunglasses and it tells you the size (e.g. 58mm) it is hard to imagine what that actually looks like on you! Go to a store and try some on, then you will know, if the store is expensive you can always remember the brand/model number and go online to check out the prices. You can get small, medium, large and over-sized glasses, so it depends on the look you are going for and what you think suits you best.

Sunglasses brand vs Fashion label

OK, if you are buying a brand who specialises in sunglasses such as Ray Ban, Carrera, Oakley etc. there may be a lot more options and variations to choose from over a fashion label. For example Ray Ban do many styles of sunglasses, but within those style they do different colours, and within that they do those in different sizes, so they have a huge number of options for each style.

If you go for a more prestigious name in the fashion world such as Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Bvlgari etc. then you might find a great style, but the sizes/colours will be limited and they are usually more expensive because of the brand.

The quality of sunglasses

Something you may want to know is the quality of sunglasses, i.e. are they well made? Well, if you buy a good pair then they should be. However remember that these are sunglasses, yes made from glass, so they are quite fragile.

A company called Luxottica who are the biggest eyewear company in the world are the company who manufacturer a huge number of sunglasses which you buy, and are made in Italy. Luxottica not only own a few brands such as Ray Ban, but they also make sunglasses for others too. So if you buy a pair of Ray Ban, Oakley, Chanel, Prada, Burberry and D&G to name just a few, they could all come from the same place.

Personal favourites

Well my personal favourites are my aviators which I love and wear the most, followed by my wayfarers. Here are the sunglasses I own at the moment.

D&G Sunglasses, Marni for H&M, Ray Ban Aviators, Ray Ban Wayfarers, Prada Sunglasses.

What to buy for 2012?

Well last year I was looking at these from Louis Vuitton to buy for this year, I think they are cool and will be quite exclusive…

I still like them, but not as much as when I saw them. However something else has caught my eye, from Ray Ban (again!) I really like the “Ray Ban Caravan” style. I think these are cool sunglasses for this year. If I get some new sunglasses this year then it may be these, although I already have so many pair!

What do you think of the Caravan from Ray Ban?

Like an aviator, but a more angular and squared style, I think these look great. Again since it is from this brand symbolic of shades these are available in many sizes, frame colours and lens colours.

Got My Ray Ban Aviators 3025

Posted by Michael on Tuesday 19th July, 2011

Hey blog!

How was your day today? Mine has been a bit lazy, but still had work to do. I say lazy because I didnt really start until after 10am, even though I did wake up at 6:50! :O I sort of hate waking up like that, because I know its too early so I have a snooze, and when I wake up I feel more tired!

I got my new tees for work, I have had a try and I am happy with the quality so I will be printing on them soon :) Hopefully people will like them and I will be using them for some time.

Today I received my Ray Bans! :D At long last I bought a pair, I got the iconic aviators, model number RB 3025. I don’t know if I will keep them, I am 90% sure I will, but I think they are a little small. They do 3 main models in this style; these ones, the large ones and the small ones. These are 58mm and I thought that would be big enough. After trying them I would like them a little larger, so maybe should of got the larger ones, which are 62mm. But 4mm, will it really make a difference? I have sized them up with my Prada ones which are much bigger, so maybe I will keep these, as a happy medium :P

I will show them on me tomorrow if the weather is good enough ;)

That is now 2 pair of Ray Bans I have, these and the Wayfarers. Its good that these come in a black soft case, because the others are in a brown one, so I will be able to tell the difference easily :P

I still want my Gucci ones, the company I bought these from can order them for me, which will take 7-10 days. So I am unsure if I should go ahead and order.

Hello lovely blog readers :)

Are you enjoying the weather today? Sorry if wherever you are isnt nice, but in Newcastle it is HOT! :D Well, almost anyway, it was 18 degrees today according to my car, and you can actually feel the heat, its not just sunny. They said on the news last night that it would get progressively colder, so its probably all over now :(

p.s. no more pics of my car display, until the summer at least, it gets repetitive :D

Today I have been quite busy with work, since I got a parking ticket I have to park further away from work, and I had 4 big boxes of t-shirts to carry which is almost 300 t-shirts which are heavy when you have to carry them a bit of a distance :P

Here I am today, this is what I wore.

First pic of the year where I am outside in the sun

Lets hope the weather stays, not that it will :( I suppose its only March, but not for long, April soon ;) All I hope for is a long hot summer, we need that! :)

I Got My Ray Ban Wayfarers

Posted by Michael on Tuesday 15th March, 2011

Hey blog!

Today I got my new sunglasses, my Ray Ban Wayfarers. I have to say, I love them. At first I thought they were slightly small, but after a while I got used to them, they just seem small in comparison to my very big D&G’s and Prada Aviators. These ones are the medium sized, 50mm, model number RB2140. They come in a nice case, with the usual little booklet you get with sunglasses and a cloth for cleaning. I went for the medium because I didnt want small ones but also didnt want ones too big, these seem to be perfect.

Before I got them I didnt realise how many of these there were! Of course Ray Ban do different styles, but the style I have, 2140 has a huge number of variations. You can get at least 3 different lens sizes, aswell as different colour frames and also printed frames. There is so much choice! :)

I got mine from Sunglasses-Shop. I recommend them, They do free next-day delivery, and this model which I got were £105 and usually retail at £120 (ASOS have them for £120+delivery). They were nicely packed too :P

If you are wondering who is wearing these shades, here are a few faces you may recognise ;)

Gonna Get Some New Sunglasses

Posted by Michael on Saturday 12th March, 2011

I am going to get myself some new sunglasses. I love the ones I have at the moment, but I am going to follow the trend which has been going on a while and get myself some wayfarers. The brand? Ray Ban of course :D I dont have any Ray Bans, and they are the most popular and famous brand for sunglasses. I also dont have the wayfarer style, other than my clear “geek” style glasses.

At the moment I have my Prada and Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses which I wear quite a bit. I got them in London last year (I think it was last year, time goes by so fast haha! :P )

I like both of these, I love my aviators and the D&G ones are so clear and light, you can wear them even when its dark and still see perfectly. But at the moment I dont have wayfarers, and I would like some. They have became very trendy and popular in the past few years, and are having a bit of a revival from the 50s and 60s where they were the glasses to wear.

I will probably order some next week, so stay tuned to see them ;)
