Seriously bad virus :(
Hello blog!
How was your day today? Mine was shit!!! Last night i got a really bad trojan and malware, called Flec006 and another one. Its the worst computer infection i have had on my PC, and was so bad i had to format my machine after 4 years of fighting spam and similar things. This was impossible to remove, no programs would run, and i could not even boot into safe mode since i got a BSOD (blue screen of death).
I hate having to re-install things on my computer, so in the past i have just fought against all the spam, trojans and malware, but this one was impossible to fix, even after trying various things suggested online.
So i have spent all of today fixing my pc, which basically was backing up, formatting and then reinstalling. Its not hard, it just takes ages and is a pain. I now have newer software like IE8, and updated all my software to help in the future, not that it will, it never does…If you use the internet enough, then things like this happen.
So, how often do you scan your computer for such things? Virus scan isnt enough, if you are worried about anything i would suggest you download and run the following: Spybot Search and Destroy, Malwarebytes anti malware and if you know a little bit about computers Hijack This
All are FREE
I would definatly suggest getting them, and running them at least once. You should really do it every week or month, or whenever you use your machine heavily, but i cant tell you that, because i dont really, but look at what happened to me!
So yeah, get these, and run them every so often!!!
Virus’ dont really happen much these days, but Malware, Trojans and Spyware do in a big way; If you dont know what they are they dont attack your computer in the same way as a virus, in my opinion they are worse. They may steal your details (passwords, usernames, anything else) or use your internet connection, or your computer resources.

Michael You don’t need to reformat your hard drive just take it out get a USB HHD docking station plug it into another computer and then scan it for virus’s with the anti-virus programs you have mentioned when you have deleted the offending shite put it back into you computer. Works every time

Thanks for reading my blog
That would not work, because you need to be in windows to remove the malware, you need to edit the registry, remove the malware, edit the startup processes etc. Also doing that you would need to physically remove the HDD and put it back, also have another machine etc. Its not really a good way IMO.
Anyway its done now
With something this bad i would rather use the last resort of formatting, at least i know i am using a clean machine now, not one with traces of anything bad

I’d just like to add a little bit of awareness for the none-geek community to an excellent security product, Comodo. Their internet security suite is second to none, for a subscription free product, and a high percentage of security professionals (myself included) use it. It’s not perfect and I’ve yet to see a perfect AV/Malware product which is, but it’s up there.
Many PC users do not realise that many viruses and other malware will actively target the mainstream AV products with the aim of firstly disabling the AV, adding itself to the exclusion list, infecting the PC then re-enabling the AV. By doing this, the malware remains undetected. For sake of example, I’d include Symantec/Norton, Kaspersky and McAfee amongst such mainstream anti-malware vendors.
Comodo doesn’t appear to have been targeted as yet (AFAIK), so doesn’t suffer such an attack.
It’s worth a look. Just Google “comodo security” and you’ll get the right page. They also do a Google Chrome variant which is a much more secure browser than (for example Chrome and IE).
Cheers

Thanks for reading my blog. Yeah i know about Comodo, I have used one of their SSL Certificates before. I have no idea if this would of worked in this case, but because it was such a bad trojan/malware i decided it would be better to format and reinstall, its not what i wanted to do, the install i had was for over 3 years and i know nobody who has had windows that long!!
