My Marc Ecko Watch: R.I.P (After only a year!)

Posted by Michael on Monday 15th March, 2010

Hey Everyone!

I was going to wear my Marc Ecko watch the other day, and i went to put it on and i noticed the time was wrong…Then i looked again and it stopped!!

I cant believe i have had this watch just around a year, and the battery is already dead! This cost £180, so its not exactly a cheap watch; Not only that, my good D&G watch which i LOVE is almost 3 years old, cost around the same, and is still going strong on the original battery.

How can Marc Ecko sell something for such a large amount of money and give you the worst quality! Sure, i could get the battery replaced, but that would cost money, probably a lot. Marc Ecko say in their limited warrenty that you should only get them to replace the battery or any part, and you have to send your watch away for a quote. WTF!? I paid lots of money for one of their watches, and they expect me to send it to them so they can hold it to ransom!!

There is no way i will send them my watch.

I will never buy a Marc Ecko watch again, or any other product by them. I would never recommend anyone buy their products, they cost a premium, but you get budget quality and service.

  2. Michael Said,

Hello Joe, Thanks for reading my blog :)

You are right, its no big deal about changing a battery. But the fact is its only a year old, and Marc Ecko dont recommend anyone else but themselves to do it….I have a D&G watch of the same price range and its 2 years older and still going strong.

This is one of Marc Ecko’s top of the range watches and it needs to be serviced after only a year, which i would imagine will cost quite a bit (I would say £20 – £30).

Its poor in my opinion, i doubt i would buy from them again.

Thanks for your advice tho :)

m8 you a fool, the watch you got from marc ecko iz poor quality, thats one of their cheaper watches! Ah should kno coz ah haxe it and the gold one plus around 10 others of which one of them costs £3,000 – $5,600 when bought so dont quack about a battery, either change it yoursewlf or send it 2 them man. They dont fuck you about with the price either i’ve had 3 of my watches fixed so far where of the one we speak ov(same as yours) nanow was in a right state with the crystals missin, strap snapped and that and ah pay’d nxt 2 nothing and it came back from them as new! Stick 2 facts nd up your price on your watches

haha i dont believe a person who cant type in proper english buys a watch for £3,000. And if i am a fool then bigger fool you, spending all that money on Marc Ecko…Far more prestegious brands for the cash.

Marc Ecko dont really do expensive watches, in terms of 4 figures, obviously you can get far more expensive watches; And you are missing the point, how can a watch battery break in a year, when i have a watch for similar money (D&G) and that battery is still going and its 2 years older!

Marc Ecko arent a brand i would spend high-3 or 4 figures on. If you do then you are the fool, i would like to see your gold watch too, “gold plated” or gold in colour is not gold.

Paying a premium for a brand and getting shit quality is what this topic is about, not how much a watch costs :)

  5. Michael Said,

oh yeah, the point i was actually making was that it doesnt matter if you spend 100k on a watch or £100, they dont make super batteries that last forever; But if you are spending a bit then you expect the battery to last a while! I have had £30 watches which last longer than the Marc Ecko one! They lasted longer than the watch in most cases

I want a ‘god plated’ watch, sounds amazing.

p.s. a duech is like a big turkey baster that you wash your arsehole out with.

this is such a funny blog.

hi, ive had my watch now for just under a year and it’s so well made that not even the sapphire crystal glass will scratch even after me hitting off door frames, obviously by accident. mine is the shadow and cost £260 so is one of the most expensive watches made by Marc ecko. it is the same with all manufacturers, below a certain price the quality is questionable and once you go over the price the quality suddenly improves, im just sorry yours was not good quality, i love my watch and will get it serviced in about 4 years time, as this is when it is suggested that all watches worth any money are serviced.

hi, i think you are over reacting just a little.. your telling me you wouldn’t recomend marc ecko watches to anyone just because you had a rare bad xp with a battery?? two words “wind up” iv had my marc ecko watch 2 years cost 210£ its the gold one with crystals round the face NO BATTERYS :D *winner* i love it.. worn it pretty much since i got it.. comes off only for showers. i wouldn’t throw it off walls for fun like i do with my G-shock but its stood the test ov time with general abuse.

in general marc ecko = A+

  13. Jonas Said,

I am suprised that you complain about the quality of the watch when it is the battery that is dead. Marc Ecko has not made the battery used in their watches now have they?

  14. Michael Said,

It is not a complaint about the watch, it is a complaint about the fact they must use rubbish batteries in their watches, and the after-care service seems to be rubbish :) Their warrenty states that I should return it to them for a simple battery replacement, they don’t even say how much it will cost. I dont understand how they cant have a standard cost for something as simple as replacing the battery.

(p.s. I wrote the original post in March 2010, so its a little old :P I have never wore this watch since, it sits in a drawer :( )

I may actually just take it to a place and get the battery replaced, I need a day-to-day watch :P

I’ve had a Marc Ecko for 3 years and the original battery just died. Thats how I got here looking how to change it. I definitely think you are overreacting. I paid $180 for mine. I believe mine was running when I bought it. Who knows how old the battery was. Im surprised it lasted this long. You can’t blame the brand for the battery. Just change it and be done with it.

My Marc Echo battery has failed in less than a year too!

Unfortunately dumbass that I am I have managed to lose the battery. Do you by any chance know the code? Is it the SR626SW?

    Cheers.
