Blackberry – Why?
I dont get why personal users buy a Blackberry…The majority of them are for business use, and were designed for that. Why would a normal user want a blackberry? What does it have? Pretty much nothing…..
They are good for businesses and power users (professionals and such) but for the average phone user there is no point in most of them; Most have qwerty keypads, that is a business feature. Also, many look the same, and the specs arent exactly brilliant for the home user.
Lets see what is currently on offer from Blackberry, this image is taken from their site.
OK, so you will probably notice the same as me…There are 4 phones which look pretty much the same! The Bold and Curve. Do they look good? No, i dont think so. Small screens and very wide, so it cant be the looks for why people buy them.
BBM – Ok, if you have a Blackberry there is a thing called Blackberry Messenger or BBM. This means that users with a Blackberry can send each other mesaages for free. COME ON!! Its 2010!! I can send a text for free, you can even send them on PAUG for free! BBM would of been great 10 or 15 years ago, now it there is no need for it. You can only send a BBM to people with a Blackberry, and its ran on its own server, which means it can go down (and does), far more than a regular phone network.
Other things which are not home-user friendly are the features e.g. crap camera.
I completly get the whole idea of a Blackberry, it is good if you are using it for work or business, there are other options out there but i get that. But for a regular person, i dont. There are far far more options out there. I have an iPhone, and i like it, and i would always choose that over any Blackberry currently on offer. It was designed for a home user. No, i’m not an Apple fanboy, i would gladly have an HTC, Samsung Galaxy, and probably others over the Blackberry aswell.
I think this is to do with the little 18-23yr old kiddies thinking they are cool American kids and getting a Blackberry. They arent cool gadgets, i wouldnt even call it a gadget, its a business device!
